Any order can be justified, depending on your criteria. Holyfield at his best is a very, very under rated HW. People forget that he was already 30 years old when he fought Bowe the first time. Lewis-Tyson are interchangable on my list. Lewis has an over rated resume and Tyson has an under rated one.
No they not teh same - Tyson trained V.Hard VS Douglas. This content is protected Lennox was fat VS Rahman This content is protected Douglas Beat v.GREEN MCcall 5 years before MCcall beat pre-Prime Lennox. Rahman punches HARDER then Tyson And too big too be pushed about - so he win by KO. 70% for Holyfeild??? What about here??? Holyfield wasnt as far gone as Tyson, a few quick KOS over bums did not automatically mean Tyson was the same as he was before. Tyson was on the decline from 89, he then spent 3 years in Prison where as Holyfield had had long drawn out battles with Bowe and Moorer and others, Holyfield was in much better shape due to staying ACTIVE and learnt a great deal from those battles. The last best fight Tyson had before Holyfield was against Ruddock and that 4 years before, 4 years in boxing is a long time.
I know, I wish someone would ban Foremans Testicle, all he does is post crap. Showing a picture of Tyson doesnt mean anything. It is well known he was sleeping with woman until 4 in the morning in Japan. You do NOT come into a world title fight when youve been banging women since 4am, it doesnt whether your Mike Tyson or Godzilla. Especially when your opponent has just lost his mom and he is one pissed off dude and hes looking to kick your ass
Tough call IMO. Yes, Lewis went 1-0-1 vs. Holyfield and 1-0 (1) vs. Tyson but we all know that he didn't face either one of them at their best. Lewis vs. Holyfield I- D12 but many felt Lewis should have won, Holyfield had turned pro 15 years prior and was 37 years old. Holyfield II- W12 but some felt Holyfield won or that the fight was a draw. I think prime vs. prime Holyfield wins. A past prime Holyfield lost a very close (and to some questionable) fight to a prime Lewis in the rematch. Tyson- KO8 but Tyson was well past prime I'm really not sure what would happen prime vs. prime. Tyson wasn't able to do much vs. Lewis when they did fight. I can see Holyfield being ranked above Lewis based off of the above info but with Tyson it's total speculation. Anyway, here goes... 1. Holyfield- won his first 10 fights at HW, 8 by KO. In these 10 fights he beat Tillis KO5, Thomas KO7 (former WBC Champ), Dokes KO10 (former WBA Champ), Rodrigues KO2, Stewart KO8, McDonagh KO4 (for Christmas money), Douglas KO3 (Undisputed Champ), Foreman W12 (Hall of Famer), Cooper KO7, and Holmes W12 (Hall of Famer). During this undefeated stretch he went 4-0 (2) in HW World Title Fights. He was the Undisputed HW Champ. He did not lose a pro fight until after his 30th birthday... so I'm not sure why people say he was inconsistent? He did a lot more after this point but he was past prime. Overall he went 11-7-2 (5) in HW World Title Fights, 4 of 20 HW World Title Fights were past age 40 and 11 of these fights were past age 35. Again, all of the losses are past age 30. He beat more Lineal HW Champs than anybody in history (7)... Joe Louis beat 5 btw (Sharkey, Carnera, Baer, Braddock, and Walcott). Holyfield beat Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Moorer, Tyson, and Rahman. He was not stopped inhis prime but was stopped twice in 55 fights. He had already gone 18-0 (14) at CW overall and 6-0 (5) in CW World Title Fights. He was the Undisputed CW Champ. 2. Lewis- went 16-2 (11) in HW World Title Fights and beat 4 Lineal HW Champs (Briggs, Holyfield, Rahman, and Tyson). He was stopped twice in his prime but did avenge both losses. 3. Tyson- it's easy to imagine a prime Lewis stopping Lewis but I can't imagine him stopping Holyfield. I do think prime vs. prime Lewis beats Tyson more times than not... same for Holyfield (plus Holyfield doesn't get stopped). Tyson went 12-4 (10) in HW World Title Fights. He was stopped 5 times.
You can't base "past prime" on how old a fighter is. Tyson is younger than Holyfield and Lewis but was past prime before they were. Lewis was more of a late bloomer compared to Holyfield and Tyson. Lewis was definately in his prime when he fought Holyfield at age 33 and 34 in '99. Holyfield was 36 and 37 when they fought and definately past prime. Holyfield had this crazy thought of stopping Lewis in round 3 in their first fight (he won round 3 big btw). The fight was ruled a draw but many felt Lewis won. Holyfield fought smarter in the rematch and did enough to win in the eyes of many, the fight was scored for Lewis. Prime vs. Prime... I'll go with Holyfield.
I like the point you're trying to make but Holyfield didn't win the rematch in "the eyes of many." A draw is the best thing Holyfield could of got, even if you give him every close round.
Spot on. A draw would not have been totally absurd, but still very, very kind to Holyfield. Hookie, who are these "many" who supposedly thought Holyfield won by the way?
I think the 4 year layoff and the easy fights against Bruno, McNeeley, Mathis and Seldon didn't help Tyson at all. Physically he was not really different at all, and technically he wasn't as off as some of his fans say he was, but mentally he was nowhere near prepared for a long or tough fight. I will accept that he was always a bit flakey mentally but he at least proved against Ruddock that he could win a hard 12 rounder. I don't know what percentage to give him, sure, it's not an exact science. 70%, 80% - he was a lesser fighter. But Holyfield was even more off his best than Tyson was, so it's no excuse.
Holyfield was already damaged goods and was 34 years old. All those wars he had while Tyson was in jail took a lot out of him. Holyfield was an OLD 34. Bowe had beaten the crap out of him twice. He looked awful jaded against Moorer. He looked bad against Czyz, The fact that he was known to be a war-torn fighter is half of what made Tyson such a big favourite to beat him. Layoffs don't help fighters, I agree. But getting beaten up and going through heavyweight wars takes even more out of a fighter. It's not like Tyson was getting fat and doing drugs in jail. Physically he was in decent shape.
It's this kind of childish nonsense and excuse-making that gives Foreman Hook fuel for his arguments. Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey and others DID successfully defend their titles banging women and living a hectic life. Ali especially was really bad when it came to that kind of thing. And since when has family bereavement been assumed to make a fighter better ? It's pathetic that people can use Douglas' Mum dying as another excuse for TYSON getting beat up !
