I consider these 4 boxers to be the most overhyped American heavyweights of the last 30 years. (Overhyped does not mean overrated) However to me these guys received more attention than several other American heavies that achieved as much or more such as Chris Byrd and Jameel Mccline.

Listed in order of career start:

    Tommy Morrison
    Shannon Briggs
    Michael Grant
    Deontay Wilder

George Crowcroft and BELLERS like this.

Grant? I can agree with Morrison, Briggs, and Wilder being overrated, but not Grant. Grant was actually fairly accomplished. Morrison and Briggs weren't, and Wilder was just not a good fighter.

Grant had lot of hype for a guy that started boxing late, and Golota had him dead to rights leading up to the Lewis bout before he imploded like he always did. I think all 4 guys could be shuffled around that’s what makes if so interesting

Morrison's win over Old George is the best win of the lot in this company of fighters.

I don't think so. Grant TKO 10 Golota (maybe it was 11, I don't remember).

    1. Wilder and it isn't close

    2. Grant--legitimate top 3 behind Lewis and Holyfield to close 1999
    3. Briggs--lacked Grant's 90s consistency, but earned the 5 spot ranking and later an alphabet belt; his version of the "lineal" title was meaningless since Schultz should've had it and he didn't won it convincingly.
    4. Morrison--Cracked the top 10 in 92 and 93 while juiced to the gills.

Morrison had a legit win vs Foreman and Ruddock, Briggs was gifted a decision vs a nearly 50 year old Foreman

No way would i rank Briggs ahead of Morrison
