Disagree with the analogy if you must. The point remains. Pac was down in the trenches with historically great fighters (yes that is plural) in or near their prime. Which the other fighters listed here cannot say. That caliber of fighter is liable to expose your defensive (and other) deficiencies. Like I said put Duran on Mayweather. Put Hearns on Canelo. Put Frazier on Usyk. Now all of a sudden you will see a fighter you arent accustomed to seeing get hit now start to have some serious leather making impact on their face and body.
Ok but tinny...you act like Pac fought NOTHING BUT elites, and so any criticism of him must be tempered with "but look at his opposition"!"...but, like, yeah he fought a ton of very good and great opponents, but...freaking David Diaz landed plenty on him, too, man. In fact, Diaz landed as many punches on Pac in eight rounds and change before getting stopped (90) as Steve Cunningham did on Fury in six and change before getting stopped (91). You know, the fight in which many say Fury came the closest he's been (barring maybe McDermott I) to deserving a pro loss? And yeah granted Pac outlanded him by a ridiculous amount, 230-90, but that is because Diaz was sorta slow and average and Pac in those days, in Diaz's own words, was "a fast mother****er... I thought Freddie was in there hitting me too!" You don't have to 'excuse' his defense by playing up his résumé. We all know Pac's résumé and his greatness. But to spin his defense as some next-level A+ god-tier **** beyond reproach is ...just not accurate. It was fine, for his highly offensive style. It wasn't as bad as it could be, for a fast high-volume aggressive puncher. But it wasn't better than the defense of fellow world class guys (and ATG's, in at least Floyd's case) who molded their games around being defensively sound. It couldn't possibly be, that is an exorbitantly high standard to ask him to meet.
I didn't say he has a glass jaw, I just explained why he has the reputation. I personally think he had an average jaw with decent powers of recovery, that's about it though. It certainly wasn't anything special, in fact it could be argued to be relatively weak for an elite boxer.
Why isnt Andre Ward included in this list. His defense was amazing against the likes of Froch, Kessler, Dawson, Barrera, etc. He was barely touched. Now take it up a notch against a historically great fighter still near his peak such as Sergey Kovalev. Now the game suddenly changes. All of a sudden Ward is in the fight of his life, experiencing desperation, getting nailed with the jab, dropped hard with the right, etc. Goes to show, it ain't so easy at the very highest level of the sport.
Those are not 6 nobodies, and pacs defense wasnt really his best attribute. Look at how many times hes been hit in all his fights, and many wars that made him beloved. You decided to throw pac in there with actual boxers who are known for having good defense, so dont get upset when posters give their opinion.
Usyk is not a defensive genius, and he does get hit more than others on your list. What he's really good at defensively is taking the sting out of the punch with subtle movements, similar to GGG. I'd say he's a notch below the other fighters on the list, and ask the others are a notch below Mayweather. Mayweather Others on the list Usyk
This is great defense This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Pac doesnt have defense like any of said fighters. Actually you could say that Haney is better defensively than Pac which in reality isnt untrue. Why you decided to throw pac on the list of best defensive fighters is mind boggling.
