I agree, it just confirms how vastly overrated Lewis has become on ESB when he is being hailed as better or greater than Hearns or Arguello.

It was not a knock on Oscar. I meant that in fights with Tito and Quartey and even fights he won in the late rounds, he did not have the power he had at 140. At 140 that power would have made the difference and he would have beaten Quartey easier and he would have won the fight with Tito. I meant more his power level went down quite a bit from 140 to 147. He still stopped guys, but not with the same impressiveness. I remember a fight on HBO before he fought Chavez the first time. It might have been David Kamau and Oscar's body punches were just awesome at 140. I thought if he hits Chavez with those punches he will stop him. Maybe it was not Kamau, but it was right before the first Chavez fight.

It was probably Tyson MAG...but he was the only bloke he blew out at 140. Personally I didnt see that much of a difference, just bigger and better fighters he was facing at 147.

That 140-147 jump can one of the hardest in boxing but Oscar had the frame and physical ability to make it no worries.

Yes you are right. Darryl Tyson. I remember these bodyshots from Oscar and thinking those are nice punches. I just think Oscar had a bit more advantages at 140 and he was a little more dominant at that weight and seemed more sharp. He moved up and many of the guys there were his height and some like Tito taller.

The fight with Quartey could have been stopped in the last round. I was a Quartey fan, and I was screaming at the tv to stop the fight when Oscar was blasting him with power shots. Oscar also had power enough to stop a game Oba Carr late in the fight. He blasted David Kamau out at 147, by the way. Let's not forget what he did to Vargas and Mayorga at 154. He still had very good power, albeit not as explosive than at 135-140.

:good Good post ive always felt that 140 probably would have been Delahoyas best weight if he would have fought there longer. He still had great power and was coming into his own as far as Ring general. His boxing ability was best at Welter and his power overwhelming at lightweight that is why i say that JW probably would have been his best weight.

Yeah it would have been. I think he could have stayed undefeated at 140. He would have had a hard time staying there but yeah he was great at 140. At 135 his left hook was as impressive as anyones in history. He knocked out Leija and Paez and Ruelas and some strong guys. The fight vs. Chavez in the mid 90's was closed circuit (the first one) I lived in the LA area back at that time, and I went to watch it at the Forum. That was interesting. People were very upset that the fight was stopped on cuts in round 4, but Oscar was quick and no one was going to beat him at the time.

:lol::lol::lol: Hey bro i saw at it at the Forum too!!:yep That place was filled up and you could hear a pin drop when they stopped it, i was screaming at my Homies telling them i told you so!! Give me my money MOFs:lol: All the Mexican Nationals looked like they wanted to jump me. Hell even the Mex American fans were pist off:lol:
The beginning of the fight Chavez, chavez, chavez!!! End of the fight a pin drop:lol:

I was always a Chavez fan but got a little turned off by the way he acted with his fans at the Olympic auditorioum press conference.
Plus when i remember Oscar when he was a kid he used to sometimes train at the same gym as me (Hollenback Youth Center) His main gym was The Ressurection gym . Also i was from Rosemead which is right next door to East La so i felt some hometown loyalty for Oscar. Another reason i wanted Oscar was i figured Chavez Legacy was already sealed. Where as Oscars wasnt and the loss would hurt him more than Chavez.

Small World we saw it at the same place:lol: I got my tickets free from Johnny Ortiz who use to give away tickets to fights and events on his Radio show Espn and Kmpc back then.

Oscar was handling Chavez very easily at 140. Miguel Angel Gonzales was a very good fighter, too. and Oscar had no trouble with him either. I have no doubt. Oscar would have put Kostya to sleep had they met. That would have been a bad style matchup for KZ, as he was too slow a starter to be in the fight before it ended. The money and the bigger challenges were at 147, though, and that's where Oscar went.

some people's opinions on here leave me a bit bemused too but if we all agreed there'd be no point having a forum would there.

Hey that is cool you saw it there. It was an odd atmosphere wasn't it? I remember the sky had a wierd haze that night also. It was sort of hazy, so the planes landing at LAX that night had that mist coming off the wings. It was surreal as we parked. It was just a weird night inside and out. Maybe we sat near each other. Yeah it was a different setting than usual. I had only been to the forum a few times before and after that. I saw Pedro Decima and Paul Banke there and Humberto Gonzales lose to Rolando Pascua. Which was a bit of a dissapointment. I saw Hearns fight in 1991 against Kemper Morton there and Genaro Hernandez was on the undercard, and then again I saw Hearns fight there against Ed Dalton in Jan. of 1997. But that closed circuit fight Chavez and Delahoya was different. It is a small world.
