And give your justifications for it please. Hamed @ Featherweight Watanabe @ Superfly Kalule @ Jnr Middle Arcari @ Jnr Welter Jimmy Carruthers @ Bantam.
Well i'll give a sort of range because a definitive position is difficult for me. Hamed @ Featherweight- Well i like him more than do the people who simply don't rate him at the highest level, a great featherweight for me, though the likes of Saldivar, Pep, Saddler, Pedroza, Dixon, Driscoll, Armstrong and maybe Arguello are greater for me. Watanabe @ Superfly, seriously one of the best there has been, beatable by the best as Roman showed, but one of the most skilled boxers on the move i have seen, some great southpaw skills Kalule @ Jnr Middle- one of the best of his era, but not all time. No discredit there, i think he is world class in any era Arcari @ Jnr Welter- don't know enough, others do though Jimmy Carruthers @ Bantam, hard for me to say, i don't rank him as great with the short career, but clearly was a force as the ack to back stoppage wins over Toweel show, one could put him in a similar light to Hatton. I think Hatton showed great potential to go on to be a great 140 pound fighter but never made it. Also, Carruthers only started losing consistently when past his best, but for me not a great 118 pound man.
Thanks for the reply teet. I know very little about Arcari myself...I always thought he played second fiddle to Loi in a historical sense when talking about Italians fighters from 140..But I know **** all about him as a fighter.
No problem, and yeah same here, its **** that i can't see more of Loi, i'm really interested, i still rate him very high at 140 anyhow. Great era for in and around the weight. Anyway we're deviating from the thread now!
Roman beat him in the last fight of his career I believe, which was a very poor showing for Watanabe even with that in consideration. I'd favor him clearly over Roman at his best.
Yeah i feel the same way based on what i have saw on film, not sure if you remember when i first looked these 2 up. I remember asking you and some others who were already schooled on them how their bout went down. I knew that Roman beat him just from reading, then when i started to see footage of each man i was curious as to how the bout unfolded as i was of the opinion Watanabe looked a more skilled boxer. I'm guessing Roman went on the offensive, i really want to see that one still
Watanabe was certainly past it by the time he fought Roman. His workrate had declined considerably for one. Howver i've always thought he meekly surrendered the title in that fight, giving barely a token effort once he realised Roman was good.Just didn't look like he cared at all.He didn't have enough left to win anyway, but it wasn't a good way to go out.
