why dont you just back your claims up like I do instead of bsing so much?

How does Leonard compare with someone who could fight well into his 40s and defend his championship in tough fights against top notch opposition when he couldnt even handle Norris at 34? He doesnt

How does he compare with Tunney who left the sport with a 77-1 record, beating both Greb and Dempsey. he doesnt and there's no way you can justify your claim

How does he compare with Walker who started at 147 like Leonard and took on heavyweights? Lets face it, two years in the limelight doesnt compare

His resume isnt as long as those guys but beating Benitez,Duran II,Hearns and Hagler is pretty damn impressive to me. Just seeing him fight is good enough for me he wasnt KTfod in his prime like your China chinned boy Norris.

In a HTH matchup there arent to many fighters id pick over him.

    :lol:You're just talking two years!

it's impressive except for Hagler since there was nothing left of him by that time. I'd have less doubts about him if he made a couple defenses against let's say, Micheal Nunn instead of Duran

And even tho those two years are impressive, however short, how does that top Moore's accomplishments past the age of 40 when he cant even give Norris a fight? Norris, who he was expected to get out of there in a few rounds?

anarci, I'm not saying Ray isnt great. I'm saying he wasnt the greatest.

Fighting and beating Hagler in 82 wouldve been a monumental accomplishment but I knew Leonard wasnt up to it and that the fight couldnt possibly be made at the time.

Another way Ray couldve made his resume better is taking on Micheal Nunn in 89 right after Mike made quick work of Kalambay. leonard already had his comeback well established so there wasnt any more confusion over the kind of condition his eye was in ;)

But Ray didnt have the heart for it and settled for Duran. The only other test for him that could possibly redeem him was Norris and we all saw what happened. A true gr8 wouldve passed the test

His resume is just too short and too lacking, especially when comparing him to the other four

well the reason Leonard wasnt a top fighter when he got older was because he took to many lay offs. I thought the Hagler win was still impressive considering how long he had been off. Leonard was more of at a disadvantage than Hagler. Im one who didnt expect him to beat Norris i knew the inactivity would catch up with him sooner or later.

I agree that he didnt want no part of Nunn. By saying 2 years you twist it around to make your point sound right.

The Hagler win is one of the greatest achievements in the history of boxing no matter which way it's spun.

None of them really wanted Nunn as he was young, they were old and the financial reward wasn't there. If he followed up his dynamic win over Sumbu with exciting wins and performances he would have got one of these guys in the ring.

but he only pulled it off because of how little remained of Hagler and thats the only reason he Ray wanted the fight. He was offered the fight more than once 82-84 but like Nunn in '89, found he had little taste for so formidable a fighter.

Sorry, but settling for scraps is not what it's about. Also, losing the way he did to Norris is not going to change my mind as there was no layoff between the Duran and Norris fights. Too many excuses for this guy and not enough to brag about

It's so funny rooster manages to get people discussing Leonard with him again and again. Quite a skill.

Not buying. You're trying to blame Mike for Leonard's reluctance to take the fight. People like you would much rather wait a few years but why should the public have to wait when they can have it now? Kalambay-Nunn was the prefect intro to a Nunn-srl fight

In fact, kalambay was the best of the rest. Why should Mike waste his time with lesser foes when Sugar is available?

lalonde was the least recognizable champion in all the sport and the least experienced and he got an immediate shot as Ray chased him down remember? But it's always the undesirables and leftovers that Ray always seems to be facing

Even if Leonard 32 at the time, that's no excuse for turning down fights with Mike. I'm sure Ray probably already had his mind made up even before the start of the Kalambay fight and he was looking for another stiff with a recognizable name

A great fighter like Hagler was still taking fights against other fighters the public wanted to see, like the beast Mugabi.

and Look at Ali old age opponents: Frazier, Norton, Young, Shavers, Holmes, Berbick. You dont see Ali looking for the softest opponents he could find
