Good list that doesn't worship US or older fighters. I've posted for years that of the 70s & older eras, Foreman (not Ali) would be the one that might compete w/the LL, K bro era HW. But too many are blinded by national/racial bias or hubris :-(
One can understand their POV. An old Ali KO'd a prime as **** Foreman in 1974. So they could kind of kill some of the mystique of your argument right there. I say you are far, far too national/racial bias to think on those terms. Somebody hates American fighters because the fight game originally took off on this side of the pond.
How can people be so stupid?atsch Again! This is H2H, you do understand what that means? Just because a very craft, experienced Ali got the best of an overconfident somewhat green Foreman and never fought a rematch doesn't mean he automatically ranks higher H2H. If that were so, then both Frazier and Norton should be rated higher than Ali automatically, or even Doug Jones and Leon Spinks. But this is H2H.....Who would rank Jimmy Young higher than Foreman in ATG or H2H?
It was happening in other countries at the same time, we just didn't allow any fighters to fight over here other than our own good ol' boys. You did know that right??
It's very hard to rank em "h2h the best" because obviously depnding on styles you could have A beating B who would lose to C but C could beat A etc At any rate, of the ones i've seen enough to hazzard an opinion, i'd rank em: Ali (prob betting favorite over most imo- the man just found ways to win most times against very good opposition for a long time) tyson (though an asterik b/c i'm only referring to a fighter from a 5 year period where his tools were awesome- that tyson would be favorite or 50/50 against most) lewis (underdog to Ali, maybe foreman, maybe slight dog to tyson. favorite over wlad, holy, frazer, slight favorite over vit k, liston, 50/50 holmes) foreman (slight dog anytime vs ali, holmes, maybe vitaly. 50/50 tyson. favorite over frazer obviously, favorite to find wlad's chin at some point, favorite over liston) holmes (tough to place too low, had great jab and ring smarts which would make him competitive vs all, favor ali over em, doesn't have the power to really threaten wlad and to lesser extent lewis who u gotta worry about chin probs) Vitaly (only a slight dog to anyone and would be a favorite to some. huge size and ring smarts, big man's power) holyfield (another guy tough to rank too low, incredible will and very good hw workrate and good arsenal. probably dog to ali, prime foreman, slight dog to asteriked tyson, vitaly, and wlad. great potential fight w frazer) wlad (great fighter but has shown enough times he can be stunned and even put out with power, i gotta think a few of the harder hitting listed hw's would have to be at least slight favorites over him) frazer (dog to ali and lewis, obviously foreman, slight dog to tyson, vitaly, and wlad. 50/50 liston?) liston (I probably shouldn't try and rank him cuz I've seen only a little of his fights, but gotta question why everyone always ranks him soo highly. people knock holmes' tyson and k2's comp and reign but really what elite or top hws did liston beat aside from the undersized patterson who i'd guess to be a lesser small hw than guys like holy, peak tyson, and frazer. And in two dodgy fights with ali, he wasn't really competitive) Just my thoughts. Not gonna further show my ignorance in discussing Louis, Marciano, and Johnson cuz of only seen a few grainy black and white film and just know of their prominance as dominant early hws.
Nice post man...Recently read Foreman talking about sparring Liston, said Liston was the only fighter over his entire career who took his best shots and forced big George to fight going backwards...He seems to have enormous respect for Liston...
That "OLD Ali" was 32, past his best, but not old. He was younger than lewis was when he beat holyfield. Younger than the holyfield that beat tyson. Younger than liston when ali beat him the second time. Ali's age when he beat foreman does not mean he deserves any extra credit.
