    True, true, as you were.

Fair enough, but can you reassemble it afterwards?

I think it is important to separate the hearsay, from what is actually constrained by some evidence here.

I have never seen any primary sources suggesting that Jeffries carried a huge deer N miles, ran 100 yards in near record time, high jumped N meters, or lifted gigantic bales of hay.

There are primary sources saying that he routinely moved around a 300lb+ sandbag, and that he lifted a 500lb+ steer on to a truck.

There are primary sources from pressure tests, that suggest that he hit as hard as Frank Bruno.

These are the sources that should be given some credence.

Pressure tests are carried out on an static target are they not?
I would suggest that under those auspices many would shine. Jeffries was known as a grinder not a one punch banger.
    His own trainer said that.
I saw Bruno from ringside, ko many big men with one punch, how often did Jeffries do that?

Where are the reports of him like this one?
"One thing that Johnson made clear is that he is stronger in the arm than Kaufman ,the blacksmith. This was shown in one clinch after another, for Johnson bent and twisted Al whichever way he wished."" Johnson was a lot stronger then people realised."

That is my definition of functional boxing strength.

Jack Johnson The Reign . Adam Pollack.

....i haven't gone back to see if sandy saddler has been mentioned. by limiting this discussion to heavyweights we've left out strong fighters in the smaller divisions. maybe someone will start a thread on pound for pound strong fighters. i'd do it myself but i'm having trouble with jock itch right now and i have put down my lap top.

saddler had great functional strength . he used a lot of tactics, some ungentlemanly that only a strong fighter could do.
