Jones at 175 is practically irrelevant. He destroyed everyone from 160-168 with highlight reel ease. Beat a Prime Toney when he himself wasnt in absolute peak. Hopkins with his style would lose to Prime RJJ always. And look at the mans skills and natural talent. Everyone whos got eyes would know hes a H2H nightmare for anyone in history. Now you can say that its not enough, but 70??
Manny Pacquiao... Top 30 Floyd Mayweather... Top 50 Roy Jones... Top 30 Lennox Lewis... Top 60 Bernard Hopkins... Top 30 Oscar de la Hoya... Top 70
Hopkins always had the goods, friend. Back then B-Hop was aggressive with a high KO percentage. I think his style aged like fine wine -- Jones on the other hand aged like bread. Jones who fought him, was green, even with his athleticism. He also was not 100% for the fight, not sure what it was, but I believe his right hand got broken in training.
Exactly. It's like Erik Morales defeating Manny Pacquiao. He did beat a very good version, but not the fighter you see today. Likewise, Jones fought a great Hopkins, but not the one who'd go on to dominate the likes of Trinidad and Tarver.
I didn't place Jones among the top 70, I believe him to be at least top 40. He's a H2H nightmare, but that has very little baring on my rankings. I judge fighters on who they beat essentially, and Jones didn't beat the level of competition which would justify a top 20 placing.
Indeed, he's certainly better than top 70...which is where I have the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera.
I have not yet complied my 100 ATG list so I can't comment on their ranking but h2h I can. Pacquiao Mayweather Hopkins Lewis Jones De la Hoya
