Ranking a fighter is not solely based on his resume

Ranking fighters is not solely based on his resume. it is based on his ability, longevity, resume, H2H against those ranked along side him, quality of opponents fought and beat.. a fighters all time ranking is not decided by one guy but by a select committee of laymen who themselves have been deeply involved in the sport for many decades. The reason i have started this thread is because some of the rankings i see on this forum are nothing other than plain stupidity and leaves one wondering at the thought and homework which has been used by some when making their rankings... any thoughts on this?

Some people give credit for boxers losing, as long as they get in the ring against a perceived good boxer that goes towards having a good resume if you listen to some on here, not in my eyes it doesnt, if the losing boxer was unlucky or pushed the winning boxer close ok, giving a small amount of credit in that circumstance is fine, but generally a loss, is a loss, is a loss, particularly comparing boxers in an ATG list sense.

Sport at the highest level should be about winning not just taking part and putting up a jolly good show.

I agree 100% and that's exactly why Greb should not be ranked as the GOAT.

Greb is nowhere near the GOAT yet what i find surprising is the number of members who seem to rank Ray Robinson as "Just another boxer who was nothing special" in a recent thread around 98% of those who posted rated both Hagler & Monzon as greater 160lb champions than SRR with quite a few having Robinson as low as the No5 greatest middleweight ever :huh.... other threads ranking Heavyweights some members have Sam Langford No2 :huh with many others having Langford in the Top 5. yet whichever way you compile rankings it is virtually impossible to rank Hagler above Robinson or Langford to be anywhere near the Top 15 Heavyweights.. Greb is another who gets ranked at the very top yet with no film footage ever being available of the guy and those who actually seem him fight not ranking him anywhere near to where he is ranked by so many today it is quite bazaar.

lots of hurt feeling here and their only response is ridicule but the laugh is on those who cannot debate who's only interest on the forum is trying to drum their idiotic views into others and when others do not accept they then try to make them suffer the consiquences. this Thread addresses their agenda which is why they have nothing to say on the matter, it makes their agenda on the forum look worthless so they have turned to their next option which is ridicule and belittlement... bring it on.

Why do you continue to hassle Mr. Quarry. It is clear to most of us that through his 45 years of following boxing he has developed many keen insights that not only have most of us posters not picked up on, but that boxing historians have not been able to discern as well. He is a gentleman and a scholar and we are most fortunate to have him here to illuminate our limited understanding...

He is an asset (or an a**, not sure which) to our forum, so I say back off and let him shower us with his wisdom!

this is funny. all the so called experts of the forum are all stuck for words, i have brought them to their knees and exposed them as "Agenda Merchants".. meaning their continuous agenda of pumping up their idols in amost every single thread on the forum without regard for any other boxer in terms of achievement is now exposed because i have told them how all time rankings are achieved. They wont accept the stat that H2H against those ranked alongside them is taken into consideration, because it means their idol now will most likely drop out of the all time rankings completely so meaning their agenda is over.
