Hi, I'm relatively new to the sport, having gotten into boxing via the build-up to the Mayweather Hatton bout (Ricky, as opposed to Matthew), and I was wondering if someone could explain to me the logic behind the Ring rankings. There is a common discrepancy whereby a fighter is rated higher on the P4P list (e.g. Hopkins, Mayweather), than they are in the rankings for the weight they actually fight at. I fear I may be begging the question, but how is this so? I'm particularly confused about Mayweather's relationship with Mosley on this front, where the former is ranked No.2 P4P, but No.3 at welterweight (is this because he has never had a legitimate fight at WW? , and conversly: Mosley is ranked No.3 P4P, but No. 2 at WW? This feels right, of course, but seems to contradict logic. If someone could explain this, I would be most grateful. Thanks
A lot of this has to do with the way fighters usually fight in different weight classes. I a fighter is in the P4P rankings and changes weight classes He cant go in ranked number 1, unless his 1st fight was against the ring mag. champion. But he still will maintain his spot in the P4P list.
