Calzaghe won a wide decision on the scorecards anyhow. Typical Calzaghe getting sloppy coming in and he got TAGGED big time. Shows his recovery powers once again.

Seriously, looking at that last replay, its pretty amazing how well he actually took it and got up.

Salem fought a 13-0 Bute in his very next fight.

And people say Bute is protected....

that was his last fight. I read on boxrec he came in overweight and didnt want to continue after the 8th. Bute first man to 'stop' Salem for what its worth

Impressive powers of recovery out of what was a really ugly fight.

I've heard alot of people complain about fighters headbutting recently, but I don't think any of them can hold a candle to Salem, who actually headbutted Randie Carver to death.

I'd never seen that fight, why didn't he follow up? He threw next to nothing after the knockdown

Calzaghe's resume makes Floyd's almost look legit.

It wasn't purely from the headbutts I imagine, but every report I've read of the fight specifically mentions them and after seeing how often Salem does it in other fights, I'm inclined to think they were definitely a factor in it.

Here's links to a couple reports which point out the early round headbutts. A shorter version of this info is on Boxrec's page for Carver:

The Calzaghe vs Bika fight was ugly as hell, with headbutts galore.

Bika has an Andre Ward crash helmet head.

Salem trains a few guys at my local gym in NY. Nice guy, but he does have the reputation of using the headbutt to really cause damage.

It certainly puts Calzaghe's level of competition into perspective.

However, that punch was a peach and Calzaghe showed what he's made of to get up from that.

Absolutely, I'm not trying to say Salem is some kind of all time great.

I'm just stating the fact that it took guts from Bute's promoter to put him in with a guy like Salem for his 14th fight considering what happened in the Calzaghe fight.

I agree, Bute also fought Bika in his 20th pro fight and beat him pretty easily. These types of fighters are good for green guys like Bute at that stage of their careers, yet Calzaghe was still fighting at that level when he was supposed to be a seasoned World champion with claims to greatness.
