Everyone out there have a couple of there favorite fighters they defend more than others. But let me ask you this, Do you have any unique combination of two fighters you are really big fans of and rate highly that others usually don't? For example I am a huge Sonny Liston and Rocky Marciano fan. In fact I rate Sonny Liston # 3 heavyweight of all time and rocky comes in at # 4. Now I notice most Hardcore Liston fans out there tend to NOT rate rocky marciano highly at all, but I am one of the exceptions. I also notice most hardcore marciano fans tend to dismiss Liston. I am not one of those. Also, I happened to be a huge fan of Wladimir Klitschko, but I don't think much of his brother Vitali Klitschko at all. Most Klitschko fans I know love both brothers, but I am not one of them. Anyone else out there unique? What fighter combinations with fans don't go two and two together?
Well i like Vitali but not Wladimir in terms of rating their styles etc. I suppose you do get most fans either liking both or disliking both. The only time you'll get me defending someone beyond reason and sensibility is with Mike Tyson. Cba with people disrespecting him.
dunno but i like alot of fighters for instance im a bg fan of Ismael Laguna, Carlos Ortiz, Ken Buchanan and Roberto Duran so when they fought each other it was afew of my favourites also Hagler Duran
Steve Collins and Chris Eubank. Eubank's fights against Benn and Watson shown live on ITV were what first got me into the sport. But then along came Collins, 'The Celtic Warrior' and beat Eubank twice here in Cork. I wasn't torn, it was Collins all the way for me, but Eubank will always be one of my favourite fighters. Actually come to think of it, the same applies to Benn, a real exciting fighter. What a great period that was!
Teeto, I hear ya brother. I actually don't rate rocky as highly as some think( I have him at 5th), but it seems like I rate him higher. I actually don't its just he gets critisized so much more than my other favorite top fighters. I hardly have to come to Sonny Liston's rescue anymore.
Are we talking heavyweights? Im a big fan of Riddick Bowe and Mike Tyson. I think Bowe at his best was something special, a complete fighter, awesome jab, and one of the best infighting big men ever in the history of the sport. Tyson in his prime was a lot of fun to watch with his go for the kill style. Also liked the style of James Douglas, another very skilled big man who didnt fight up to his potential. Holyfield another one of my favorites, tough SOB.
Yeah on this forum Liston has enjoyed more respec in a lot of areas i'd say a bit more than Marciano, so naturally you'll find yourself coming to his rescue more. I rate Marciano at number 4 myself on what went down in his career. But an aspect that i'm starting to think he should not be underrated anywhere near the level he has is h2h. He's a force of nature plain and simple.
Does me liking Duran and Buchannan class as rare? As in i GREATLY admire both? Or would Leonard and Duran be the big one there?
Wow! do you rate Holmes and Tyson highly? Im very interested in your opinion who wins prime for prime
Yeah I rate both highly, Holmes probably around 6, Tyson usualy scrapes top ten all time at heavy. Prime for prime, I'd say Holmes would outpoint him, although he would kiss the canvas. I think Larry's exceptional ability to recover quickly from a heavy knockdown would be key.
I am a fan of both Jim Jeffres and Jack Johnson. Most people are either a Jefries man or a Johnson man. I give an above average rating to both Jack Dempsey and Harry Wills while most people rate one at the expense of the other.
