As was clearly illustrated they are two seperate issues. You are trying to tie them together in order to support the argument for doing something against someone's wishes. Baclava can do whatever he wants with the film I just told him out of courtesy to him and to the family. He can blame me if he wants to take it down but at the end of the day if the family contacts him and asks him to take it down, or contacts youtube and complains is it my fault, the family's, or Baclavas? If the family contacting you makes any difference at all in your decision making then youve basically proved my point, not yours then dont ***** and moan at me and pretend there was nothing wrong with it in the first place when I pointed it out. Or call me a scrooge because a bunch of spoiled brats want something for free. When you go to the movies do you ***** and moan that you cant get in for free? When you actually buy a PPV or go to a fight do you complain that its not free? I dont have any problem admitting that I'll go snatch a Don King or Bob Arum torrent. Im honest about it. But when it comes to the family, who has one rare film that they could use to honor Johnny's legacy and license it for documentaries etc, its been in their family for literally 100 years and they were responsible for the thing even being seen and happen to be very nice and fairly close to the boxing community then yes, I think its pretty shitty to not take someone's advice (and thats all I offered was some pretty innocuous advice). Like I said, do what you want. If people want to pretend its a threat to say that if you show you cant be trusted then you wont get anything rare then take it as a threat. I got the same advice years ago before I had anything and I listened to it. Thats the difference and thats my final word on it.
All I'm doing is pointing out your duplicity. Your logic twists and turns depending on what one is calling you on. Again, all of it to suit your own desires and wishes at the end of the day, despite all the bleating about the nice old family's wishes. You're not being honest at all.
They own a hard copy not the rights, If I buy a movie on DVD and somebody posts a piece I don't have authority over that clip cause I own a hard copy, hell even if I own the last copy of any film I do not have rights to it, nor does the family
First I want to thank Baclava for posting the video. Second, I believe that as long as anyone is not trying to make money off of a post on any website there should be no issue with it. If I record a fight between Tyson and Marvis Frazier in 1986 on vhs tape and then watch it with friends in 2013 while waiting for the Broner vs Maidana fight to start, do I owe someone money? I think not. Finally, if a family has a copy of a bout and the rights are owned by another entity then they have no argument over it. And if they owned the rights for nearly a century and have not marketed it, it makes little sense to me.
I think your point of view is absolutely justifiable. Where your own property is concerned, by which I mean something you have paid for and have an implied contract regarding. If someone else has acquired a film and elects to share it you should butt out IMO.
:deal Explaining why you keep your own films under wraps is absolutely fine. Demanding the same thing of someone else is outrageous.
