Can anything be said other than 'Wow'. This Napoles vs whichever version you think of as the best of 135lb Duran, would be a fight for the ages.

What makes this even more impressive is that Urbina was an accomplished fighter himself and had never been stopped previous to this bout. Napoles just destroyed him.

That was one thing I wasn't sure about, being unfamiliar with Urbina. But fair play GreatA I'll go with what your saying. I think it's clear from watching Napoles at Welter (kinda' like watching Ray Robinson at Middle) that you can guesstimate how he would've been at a lower weight. I.e slightly faster, more mobile, power counts for more that kinda' thing.

But now I've seen him beat up a supposedly decent operator......:yikes:thumbsup

Either way thanks for the post.

Napoles was highly avoided he did not get his chance to fight for a title until people thought he was too old. He is my #1 ATG welterweight.

Regardless of at what stage in their careers Urbina defeated them, wins over Jose Napoles, Eddie Perkins, Joe Brown, Chango Carmona and Lauro Salas should not be under-played.

Urbina has one of the better looking resumes if you discount his losses. :good

No doubt. I'm not much of a Boxrec skimmer though in this instance it would be warranted. That is impressive and shows he wasn't a run of the mill contender. Thanks for adding some substance to what is already a very interesting and thought-provoking piece of footage.

He was definitely a solid hitter at Welter with the capacity to do serious damage but I wouldn't say HUGE. Mind you, my interpretation of huge would be Hearns/Cuevas/Robinson (presumably, but not having seen any footage I add this note)

Damn good hitter, but at Lightweight he must be right up there. Looks to be a destroyer here.

I think Napoles power at WW could be compared to SRRs power.

But lightweight holy cow, Napoles must a hit like a mule

Ask Ernie "Indian Red" Lopez if Napoles could hit.

Napoles looks absolutely lethal at lightweight. Great fighter...potentially the best at the weight.

Thanks again for the threads in general, and a lot for this one in particular. Definitely one of the best fighters ever. Look how he's so composed yet so energised and relentless at the same thime. What a fighter.

That's the one where he cold cocks him when he Lopez has his back to him isn't it? I always forget which one it is. Even though his back's to him, he lands the ko blow perfectly clean no the chin if i remember correct.
