Joe Louis vs Abe Simon I in 1941 was only filmed from a ringside camera (or maybe it was officially filmed but the film got lost) and only a few seconds/minutes of it survived. There are lots of cuts in the film and it is not the best angle but this is definitely as rare as it gets. Unlisted video: [Change Resolution to 480p] [yt]ILU6ea3Fp1E[/yt]
A seldom repeated fact was Simon was Jewish, and most Jewish people were rooting for Joe Louis based off his victory over Schmeling and Nazi symbolism. Simon wasn't very skilled. His long suits were size, a very good chin, and some power.
I think the fact that he was named Abraham Simon was a bit of a clue to him being Jewish. At 6'4" his suits would be long.
