Fights against Memphis Al Jones and Marion Connor: http://www.efootage.com/stock-footage/78931/Frazier_Kos_Jones_In_Round_1_-_HD/ Bodyshots wrecked the popular brawling journeyman Al Jones in the very first round. http://www.efootage.com/stock-footage/76104/Frazier_Versus_Connor_Bout/ Connor was a higher class opponent, but Frazier's left hook did the job and Connor is sent down and out in the third round. You must have QuickTime to view them. The site has a lot of good boxing clips.
Seen the footage but I didn't know about the site. Thanks. Frazier's polish really interests me. Some things like the shortening of punches and the vast improvement in balance, but you see him sometimes try to slip individual punches then step in - British title level stuff. Somewhere along the line that became a calderon of seamless perpetual motion who stepped, slipped and punched in one long note. A vast leap taken in small portions.
Would you happen to know if there is a film that exists of Frazier's fight with Doug Jones in early '67?
The fight WAS filmed. I have a 2 1/2 minutes silent version. Not sure of which round, but not showing knock downs or knock out. Woller
Great fights. Frazier showed great defense & agility. There is a youthful reckless abandonment in his early fights that I like. Memphis was a wild man, wasn't he.
I remember on another forum there was a person who had worked the corner of Memphis Al Jones when he scored the big upset of his career against then hyped heavyweight prospect Boone Kirkman. He actually knocked Jerry Quarry down twice.
Wow. I guess it's such a wild, unrefined attack that Quarry was shocked at what was happening. His punches are so wide, and so poorly thrown that Frazier makes the man look even more amateurish than he already is.
There was one of Frazier literally jumping into the face of a guy and hitting him with a left hook that starched the poor fella, it looked like he had died right there does this description ring a bell to anyone? it's similar to the left hook Joe hit Ali with
The greatness of Frazier is hard to put in words. Yes it was stamina but much more than that. It was power and strength but as we know not so much that he could slug on even terms with the likes of Foreman. It was punch at fairly good quickness and high volume at consistent middle \ high power with insane stamina to keep it up for a whole fight. Then a rubbery slippery body range of motion that made it hard to hit him or out position him. That’s why he beat Chuvalo Ellis Quarry and Bonavena so decisively and was able to fight Ali so tough in spite of Ali seeming to hold all physical and skill advantages. Oh yes and toughness and determination on the level of anyone who ever fought.
