Not because he didnt finish the guy, because all he had to do was make a simple adjustment and he couldnt do it and his coaching didnt have a clue and davis didnt come to win that fight.
i agree with you there, davis never had the look of someone who wanted to win he wanted to survive and not get stopped or knocked out, he was very poor as usual in his stand up and he was there for the taking after rd 3 which i thought would happen but rashad wasnt the man to do it, rashad didnt impress me either
I've been saying this since people first started comparing Davis to Jones (which was in between or just after the Boetsch/Nog fights). He's not done anything super impressive, but he's a talented up and comer with a lot of potential, but the Evans fight was just too soon for him and it was obvious he was out matched pretty much everywhere. A loss to Rashad at this point in his career is nothing he'll suffer from, and in time he'll no doubt reach his potential.
I completely disagree. Evans was dominant, he got a shut-out making an undefeated, up-and-coming guy look below average in the process. That sums up a great performance. You can't say a fighter 'didn't look good' just because he didn't get the finish against a guy who clearly didn't want to get in a real fight. It's hard to make adjustments and KO a guy who spends most of the fight moving away from you. I was actually impressed with Evans, didn't expect him to be this dominant, but he shut me up with his performance.
...and that is what made it so difficult. I think Rashad admitted he wasn't happy but it wasn't a bad performance. I think the only bad part of Rashad is he never seems to go for a sub even when he could. Other than that we could see Rashads striking and wrestling.
Phil Davis was being touted as the Next Jon Jones and had he handled Rashad the way he has everyone else that talk would still be ongoing. Evans fought an intelligent and disciplined fight over a dangerous fighter and dominated him in every category of the sport.
Seriously , such a dum ****witted thread !!!!!! :huh Phil Davis is among the most decorated collegic wrestlers in the sport and is developing an excellent submission game under the extrememly gifted Lloyd Irvin and you think Rashad looked shite because he didnt get an easy KO :-( , is this ****in serious ???? If Phil Davis had more experience , and was a little bit more battle hardened Rashad Evans would of lost this fight IMHO , Davis got uncomfortable mid way through the 1st round and never recovered , his stand up became sloppy , his shots were desperate and easy reading for a wrestler as capable as Evans , and his willingness to go and engage Evans dwindled as the fight went on , this for me was down to pure lack of experience , because the first round showed me what i beleived from the start , Davis has a more well rounded stand up game than Evans , he just didnt like standing there with a guy who was his equal and more , by the end of the fight , in terms of boxing !!! , and by the 3rd round i was seriosly starting to doubt Davis's fighting credentials , i.e. his ability to fight back !!!! , he looked more of an athlete than a fighter at that point , but he pulled it together and came out for 4 and 5 for an ass whooping but at least he was still there and finished the fight Evans had to be cautious early on as he didnt want a grappling exchange with Davis , it was clear Evans was looking to sprawl and brawl with Davis and push the pace , make the fight uncomfortable , impose his will , what ever you wanna call it , and his plan worked , because Davis folded mentally and Evans took control , by round 5 Evans was looking good for the stoppage , and he blended his boxing / sprawl / distance control and aggression excellently the whole fight For me it was a classy MMA performance
Rashad fought a very intelligent fight and was better in every aspect. Davis has a solid chin there are many fighters who would have got ko´d by some of those shots
That fight was much more about Rashad being a top-level mixed martial artist than it was about Davis being a crap fighter. :bart :hat
Threw the same punches all night and didnt make any adjustments. Hes done in 1 or 2 against jon jones.
Evans looked very good against Davis. Davis is the bigger, stronger, better wrestler. Davis was a 4 time NCAA Division I All American, winning the NCAA title in that 4th year, at 197 lbs. Davis finished with a 116-15 at Penn State. Rashad's college record was 48-34 at 174 lbs while attending Michigan State University. However, this was not a wrestling match. It was an mma bout. Rashad used his speed advantage, better understanding of range, and overall superior skill set to dominate his undefeated opponent for 5 rounds.
Even if he got in there and knocked Davis out in 5 seconds with a spinning bolo punch, everyone would still think he will be done in 1 or 2 against Jon Jones. Basically, this fight wasn't in any way an indication of what will happen in the Jones fight. Evans could go on and KO Junior Dos Santos and I would still think he will be done in 1 or 2 vs Jones.
