i just saw it on mma news..its going around everywhere rashad broke his hand and couldnt fight at ufc 140..so dana white announced via twitter that lyoto machida gets a shot...so we know its legit "Alright Toronto!!! Dec. 10th UFC 140 tickets go on sale net weekend and your main event is 'Bones' Jones vs. Machida!!!," White wrote. It appears that Rashad Evans' injury history has taken another title fight away from him, at least for the time being. UFC President Dana White announced today on his Twitter account that Jon Jones will defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Lyoto Machida at UFC 140. "Alright Toronto!!! Dec. 10th UFC 140 tickets go on sale net weekend and your main event is 'Bones' Jones vs. Machida!!!," White wrote. Jones was expected to face Evans at the same event in Toronto, but Evans didn't have enough time to rehab and train after having pins removed from his injured hand this past Wednesday. Jones and Evans were former training partners before Evans left the camp due to comments made by "Bones" after he won the UFC title. The two faced off in the cage after Jones defeated Quinton "Rampage" Jackson earlier this month, but will have to wait to settle their differences once again. "Back 2 work" Jones wrote on his Twitter account after White made the announcement. "Fighting 3 champions in one year (Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Jackson and now Machida), what a great challenge...feeling alive." Machida, a former UFC 205-pound champion, has not fought since earlier this year when he defeated Randy Couture with a front-kick that knocked out the former multi-division champion. He was rumored to face Phil Davis in his next bout, however those plans were put on hold as Davis is also recovering from an injury.
Love it, much more interesting matchup, wonder how Machida will hold up Prime LHW are not Evans' cup of tea
Rashad knew his Glass Jaw was going to get shattered and found an easy way out for the time being so he can really milk interest in his "grudge match" before he's exposed. Machida is a much more interesting fight but he's still going to wind up on his ass getting elbowed.
The fight I always wanted to see. Lyoto is starting to get up there in age but at 33 I think he is still quick or nearly as quick as ever. IF he can stop the TD Lyoto has a chance IMO. Jones still the favourite of course.
Holy ****, this is awesome. I think that this fight will tell us whether or not Jones is going to be able to dominate the division until he moves up to HW. Lyoto is the most interesting style match up for him. Whether you like Jones or not, you've got to give him credit. This will be his fourth fight in an 11 month span against a top ten LHW and his third title fight in eight months.
Jones may take the lead and run with it.. Machida is gonna have to be more active than usual and work in those wonderful takedowns if he wants to win this. Machida can't play chess on his feet the whole fight, that reach would give any fighter trouble.
I see Jones giving HWs some big problems with his speed ala Fedor, well...I won't count the chickens for now
Rashad should get a shot since Shogun won the title and now they cant wait a few weeks and replace him with someone who beat a 48year old Couture? Machida is a great fighter but Evans deserves this fight more than anybody else.
