emmanule steward world class trainer said that jones even in his prime would of had a handful with calzaghe because of his ability to adjust, endurance and awkward high volume punching style and i think he knows a little more than you
i would actually say pacman choosing to fight clottey a man who stylistically is equivalent to cotto who pac just beat and that cotto just beat clottey, is actually worse than calzaghe choosing to fight jones
It was ok. A step above insignificant. Roy could have beaten a handful of fighters that night, I'm sure. Not stars, mind you. Maybe an Omar Sheika, a washed-up Jeff Lacy, a handful of guys who were past it or never had it. But he wasn't beating Calzaghe.
There have probably been threads on things Manny Steward has said.... I'll go with Joe's assessment of RJJ being shot and unworthy of a fight with him. As stated, Joe is on the record with this one.
Good point Yeah I was hoping for a Pavlik fight as well, what exactly happened with that? EDIT: it was a OK win
What is even more shameful is BHop fighting him now just after he was KO'd. At least Roy was on some sort of win streak before fighting JC.
It was OK. Roy was still a top 10 light heavyweight, even though a good chunk of that had to do with how weak that division was (and still is). Can't rate it any better than that, though. I'm a Calzaghe fan and wanted him to finish off with a fight vs Dawson or Pavlik. Jones was the kind of fight I wouldn't mind had it been sandwiched between Hopkins and one of those two prior names I mentioned, but beating Roy wasn't a fight I could get excited about him retiring on.
You start off by saying that Clottey is stylistically equivalent to Cotto and, if that wasn't bad enough, you suggest that Pacquiao fighting Clottey was worse than Calzaghe an over-the-hill fighter who he openly admitted was shot. Unbelievable.
