I agree totally. Jones fooled a few less educated fans with carefully picked opponents who were either nobodies like Ajamu and Hanshaw with padded records or former champions and contenders like Tito, Lacy and Sheika who were past their best, on a loosing streak and were fighter above their natural weight. Jones hasn't had a world class win since the first fight against Tarver. Anyone who was any good since then has beaten him convincingly.
I think Hopkins top 5 wins would be Tarver, Pavlik, Trinidad, Hoya, and Johnson, (Winky wright maybe in there aswell). If he beats RJJ I dont think it is better victory than any of those. But u r right bout Reid, he was a tough opponent and was a tougher matchup than the RJJ calzaghe fought.
My prediction was Calzaghe by close UD against Jones. I had felt for along time that Calzaghe was also well past his best, and had a feeling he would be beaten by Lacy by 4th round KO, and could well be outpointed by Kessler and Hopkins. I felt before Calzaghe fought Hopkins, that Calzaghe was more past it than Hopkins, but he kept surprising me, so I figured if he after this hed beat Jones. Jones did look awful at the time of his defeats to Tarver and Johnson, but he also looked bad when beating Tarver and I felt alot of this was also due to him coming back down to LHW from HW. I felt Jones woulod have well and truly adjusted back to the weight, making him better than when he lost to Tarver and Johnson, but that was just a guess
It was an OK win that netted Calzaghe perhaps the biggest pay day of his career, and let him retire a wealthy man. A shame their stars shone brightest at different times, otherwise we could of had one of the fights of the 00's.
