For me the biggest reason Cotto will lost to Margarito is his lack of power. He didn't seem to trouble Mayorga too much and Foreman either until later. Mayorga has a great chin but- he fought at like 170 about 4-5 months before fighting Cotto. I thought losing that weight would be important but Cotto coulden't take advantage. I don't see why Margarito won't walk through Cotto's punches and stop him earlier than before. Sad to say, Cotto's my favorite fighter but just the way I see it.

I'll be keen to see how Marg's eye holds up. He is there to be hit, so Cotto should get out there early and land some hard left hooks on that eye and see how Margo takes it. If he can get that thing swelling up nice and early Margo could be in for a long night

I agree, Cotto was a beast at 140lb and hit really hard but unfortunatley for him he couldnt make the weight anymore. He's still a good puncher at 147 but not devastating. 154 he gets your attention but not KO power. I have a feeling Margarito will win again unless Pac really damaged him. But If Cotto can box for 12 rounds then he takes it. Either way a punishing fight for both.

    errmmm is it December yet!?

sorry, really excited to see this fight - no KO's before the 6th... PLEASE!

Cotto CAN get Margarito out..... but ONLY if he did what SSM did (and the only who's stopped him i believe)

GO TO THE BODY!!!! Break down the body, slow down the attack. He'll start leaning forward and you can get in uppercuts w/ better effect, and also turning over punches downward like SSM did, to the point of punching him down to the ground...

If Cotto dedicates a body attack, expect a later round TKO, nothing earlier. If no body attack - no stoppage at all.....

If Cotto hasn't figured out how to block or avoid uppercuts up the middle, I can still this being a rough night for him.

Or if he's still too proud to hold. Imagine how much easier the first fight would have been if he's got his shots off, then tied Marg up before he could fire back.

Mayorga landed a lot of overhand rights and uppercuts on Cotto. His defense is as average as ever.

His last two wins weren't devastating knockouts, but he got the TKO's none the less. One punch knockout power, no. But enough to do damage.

I think cotto has average power even in 140 lbs, remember he was only a prospect back then who works his way up the ladder. The level of opposition just got higher same with berto now, nobody thinks he has one punch power unlike before. What gives Cotto all those KO's is probably a combination of all the attributes like the way he puts his punches together. He has good power on his left hook though, and you could see that he even hurt pac and some of his uppercuts snap pac's head back

Come on man, only average power at 140? 22 KO's in 27 fights before he moved up, and a lot of those came before the 6th or 7th rounds. He had great power at 140, no denying that.

Same. I think there is just a small group of average posters who actually understand what it means

Average to good, within that range and I said that thinking of other past greats in mind. From those 27 fights he wasn't exactly facing all the great fights out there, he was prospect to champ so most of those guys in his first 27 fights were stepping stones

True, but you could say that about almost every 'past great'. Everyone's early career is one stepping stone after another. All you can do is rate the amount of knockouts they racked up at a given weight. Cotto's KO record at 140 is very good, that's all you can say. Take Corley for example. Never knocked out before that fight. Now, it was an early stoppage, no doubt, but he'd be down twice before that already, the KO was coming eventually either way. I don't see how anyone could rate Cotto's power at 140 as anything less than "impressive".
