Lol Valuev's not a bum. He just beats up on overmatched bums. He's Brian Neilsen level. That's not saying much of Haye in his tentative win over him throwing 11 punches a round. That's Haye's only decent win at heavy. Ruiz was old and shot. Barrett and Harrison were never any good to begin with and both were creaky old. I'm amazed Monte didn't break his hip when he tripped over the top rope coming in against Haye.
Let me rephrase that. Haye promised a lot for his HW campaign, many hardcore fans around the world got excited, then he left many of them disappointed by over-promising and being unwilling or unable to deliver. That's how it went down.
It's not a great list so far but people will defend the Klitschkos for fighting anyone who's put in front of them and Haye hasn't done any different with those names. In fact, if you put Ruiz & Valuev on Wladimir's record they'd be up there with some of his best wins dont you think? Lets not pretend Haye's making history here. Its not a fantastic heavyweight resume. But I think its unfair to slag him off for it unless your doing the same to other tops fighters today.
imo barrett, is a bad win, barrett at the time just a journey man valuev, good win, but a very bad fight from haye and very close, he could have lost the fight and noone would have said something ruiz, good win against a former top 10 contender, who was way past his prime harrison, better win then barrett, but yeah we all saw that fight...
Actually he did. When Ruiz lost to Toney he (and Stone) announced retirement. A week later when the WBA announced it was a NC due to Toney roiding up and gave Ruiz the belt back, he changed his mind. So technically Toney DID retire Ruiz. And Roy Jones just embarrassed a far better version of Ruiz than what Haye faced. That aside, Haye's HW campaign has been utter ****.
He don't have a great resume at hw, but he don't have a terrible one neither. It'll do as long as it's capped by a klitschko. It holds up to anyone elses last 4 fights at the division anyways. That being said his fights are exciting and watchable and i'm fairly confident whoever he fights next will make am exciting fight with him also.
I do not quite agree on that one... This content is protected - Quite exciting matchup. This content is protected - Stinker with Haye constantly running and potshotting with an incredibly low punchoutput. Getting a gift decision, undefendable! This content is protected - Expected a stinker, but Ruiz' surprising attacking style made it quite watchable. This content is protected - Worst HW "fight" ever!!! (I'm not even exxagerrating) "Won" ESB's Worst Fight competition by a landslide (even with Hopkins vs Jones II in the mix!), with round 1 "winning" Worst Round, and round 2 coming in second in that competition, blowing away the other contestants. No punches connected at all in round 1. The paying public wanted their money back, there was an investigation by the BBBoC and Audley almost had his purse revoked. Lucky thing for the audience, it only took 3 rounds and the controversy after the "fight" was at least a little exciting! A 50% stinker rating at HW doesn't make for an exciting fighter, certainly not with that level of competition.
Difference being Haye promised he'd only fight the toughest and most hungry names "unlike the Klitschkos" and then he fights guys just as old and shot as the brothers do. He's no better than them, maybe even worse because the brothers never promised they'd deliver memorable FOTY candidate bouts. Haye did. Nobody would shred Haye if he didn't promise so much and leave us so utterly disappointed with a foul taste in our mouth.
