He has given up home advantage in most of his fights already. fought in hostile crowds. After just 8 fights defeated a very good domestic fighter in Smith. What are your thoughts on ''chunky'' arrogant James DeGale? I have to say he is growing on me. How would a groves/degale fight go right now?
Think he was almost punch perfect. Amazing to think he has only had 9 fights. Never panicked under pressure. Countered beautifully. Jab controlled the fight fantastically well. Couldn't really ask for more.
He hadn't been past 5 rounds before and he made Smith look like the young prospect in there. I didn't see one weakness in his performance last night. Was very impressed with how at ease he was on the inside with Smith. Its become all to common to see prospects with a complete inability to deal with the rough inside stuff but DeGale dealt with it like a 50-fight veteran. Massively impressed.
out of ten I have to honestly say 9. cool and calm in his biggest fight, proved that he has a bit of power, can fight and defend himself on the inside as well. took a couple of decent shots but chin still has to be really tested. Would be every interesting to see how he copes with the pressure and body punching of Groves, but after that yesterday I've changed my pick between these and reckon De Gale beats Groves.
DeGale was superb last night. I can't find any negatives in that performance. Controlled the fight and never looked in trouble.I have to say, he's grown on me a lot. Yeah he's cocky, but he's clearly a very talented boxer.
9.5/10 Sorry it was that good IMO. He hardly put a foot wrong. Only a few times was he caught and when he was he just slide away and reset. Plus point was fact he smiled at Smith at one point and sort of went ''come on **** let's have it then!''. He's not just nice boxer i been told he likes a tear up. And the reason this is a plus point is fact he fancied the tear up but went about it with his skills and poise when Smith did actually fancy engaging.
