Tyson had great offense as everyone would universally agree to, yet take away his speed & power and how good offensively would he have looked against his opponents then? Reflexes can be trained, like everything else some are probably more talented at it than others but it can be trained therefore it is part of the defense skills RJJ has trained for. Best prospect since RJJ...buts hes alot older than some previous great prospects so thats a huge disadvantage to him.
How soon do you guys think Gamboa is ready for a title shot at someone like Valero? Honestly, I think he could beat him now.
Valero would KHTFO. Gamboa is a classic case of looking great against bums. Dont forget, when valero was facing bums he KO them all inside 1.
As robotic as Valero is, he hits like a mule. If Gamboa kept his hands up, he would out point him. But its a big risk with a fighter like Valero.
The fighters Gamboa has faced are far better than the fighters Valero was facing when he was on that streak. Gamboa has faced a guy who was in a title eliminator not too long before he fought him. And from what I can tell, Gamboa hits pretty damned hard himself.
Apples and oranges. Valero was KO'ing bums, but Gamboa is showing all the goods. Its his reflexes, versitility, punch output, angles, and defense that will carry him in the future. Valero had power, and IMO power is the real "fools gold" when fighting bums.
Chin? No way of telling. His power seems very good to me. But who knows, maybe it's the speed. Either way, he has only had one fight go the distance.
I would be extremely confident in picking Gamboa to KO Valero in the early rounds if they fought next week. There are a lot of B levels out there who would KO Valero too, so it's no huge accomplishment. His chin is shaky, he has absolutely no idea what to do when someone backs him up, and he's extremely easy to hit. Plus he's very predictable and Gamboa would be able to knock him out in a few minutes without trouble. Valero is extremely lucky to be a titlist.. he's horrible and even his power is questionable.
Gamboa is the best prospect I have seen since Floyd Mayweather Jr Gamboa is a combination between Roy Jones Jr's offense and Joan Guzman's defense.
best prospect since miguel cotto. he's a combination of mosley and hamed for me. nice short shorts of mosley and sways in and out a little like hamed. :bbb
Its more speed than anything. Guys freeze up and get a flurry from him. It dont have that shocking feeling of fear for it may land.
Their both showing "the goods", one is power and one is speed/reflexes. Its just a question of which will remain a huge advantage at the elite level aswell as other intangibles. Valero has more experience, specially when your'e chief spar mate for the likes of morales & mab.
That's backwards of what I said, but your comparison is the correct one now that I think about it. I was going to put Guzman's defense too, but I had already put him down for offense. I'm just wondering, back when Guzman was fighting at 122 did you notice him or was he getting any hype at all (particularly after the Sanchez fight)? It seems like the boxing media and fans in general were ignoring him for years and he only started getting real attention when he moved up to 130. Having over 300 amateur fights and winning a gold medal is greater experience than being a punching bag for MAB/Morales and knocking out 20 C/D levels. Valero was never a real prospect to watch.. the Mosquera fight showed how average he is. Gamboa is a true A+ prospect and nobody can deny his amazing talent/reflexes.
