If Ali was out as long as Foreman, Ali would've come back in 1977 (not a banner year for Ali performances). Ali was 28 when he returned to boxing. Not remotely the same.
If Foreman fought "cans" then Vitali was a "can" collector. Foreman had 76 wins. Vitali won 45. And one could argue Vitali fought more cans than Foreman did, and Foreman had nearly twice as many fights.
He fough 36 cans before Frazier (Peralta was decent) and 26 cans before Holyfield (Rodrigues gets a pass, Qawi, Cooper and Cooney do not). That’s 62 tomato cans pre-title shot, not counting the additional cans he fought after his title shots.
Good Lord. Qawi was a first-ballot Hall of Famer. And he wasn't one of George's better wins. And you count Qawi as one of Foreman's "cans?" Name one Hall of Famer Vitali even beat? First career or second? Hell, name one he sparred with that wasn't his brother? Name another Hall of Famer from another weight class he fought? Orlin Norris? No. Juan Carlos Gomez? No. The BEST guy Vitali beat in his first career was Corrie Sanders. In his second career, the best guy he fought was Dereck Chisora. And you're ripping guys like Qawi? Give it up. This is freaking LAUGHABLE. And George was out 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fact that he could still even do it was amazing. The fact that he became the WORLD champion via KO at 45 is TOPS!!!
Briggs was a rare case, he was more durable and IMO better in some ways than the younger guy Foreman meet and lost to. There's also a huge contrast in results with the same opponent. Briggs who fought the both said Vitlai hit harder than Foreman. Do you really think Foreman beat better fighters than Vitali did during his comeback? Foreman had many set up fights. Vitali beat far more top ten ranked contenders. There is a difference, Double.
It might surprise you to learn that Vitali has more wins over Ring Magazine top ten opponents. None of Vitali's " cans " dented him, but some of Foreman's did. As far as who fought more fighters with below .500 records, its Forman by a mile. Count it if you care, you;ll be shocked. Yes--Foreman has more professional wins boxing. Vitali has 100+ more amateur wins, plus 40+ kickboxing wins.
There is absolutely NO WAY IN HELL that the Shannon Briggs Who Vitali faced was better than the Shannon Briggs who fought Foreman and Lewis in back to back fights. Enough. My participation in this thread is over.
Okay, that is your opinion. Briggs, who I am familiar with became stronger and more durable later in his career. You can put Vitali > Foreman in terms of beating more top ten opponents, and fighting far less fighters under .500
Qawi was washed up. Finished. Gomez and Adamek actually were decent heavies. At one time, Norris proved his worth at heavy also which qawi never did.
LOL, Foreman would get creamed in kick boxing. And that was an illegal move in the tournament by the way. Vitali was either 20 or 21 when it happened in 1992. Getting floored by the likes of Jimmy Young, and badly out boxed by Tommy Morrison? I'll spare the others those highlights.
Yes, please rattle off all of Vitali's top 10 opponents and all of Foreman's, and lets see who fought the better guys. Please. Let's see, George fought Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Michael Moorer, George Chuvalo ... And Vitali fought ... Dereck Chisora, Tomasz Adamek, Sam Peter ... did Charr make the list? Yes. NAME THEM ALL. Gotta go. Before my head explodes.
Back again after an enough and bye? Trying to change the tune? I said Vitali beat more top ten opponents, and he did, and he fought far less opponents with losing record, by a factor of at least 15+. You don't want to engage there because I'm correct, and admitting that would be tough. Vitlai did not get a chance to fight a fat Frazier, or a famous glass jawed types, unless Herbie Hide qualifies. Lyle nearly Ko'd Foreman, Moorer a blown up light heavy was well ahead until his glass jaw which he lined up perfectly for Foreman to hit was cracked. It seems like many of Foreman's top wins come vs. guys who don't take a good punch! Just a quick and correct observation. As weak as you think Charr might be ( He's a belt holder today) he's leagues ahead of the legendry Jose Roman, who Foreman selected for a title fight. I get it, Foreman is very popular and linked with Ali and Frazier fans, so they are likely to over inflate him a bit. But he was suspect in the 1970's in a few fights, performed terribly vs Ali who was hanging on the ropes to be hit, was floored and close to being stopped by Lyle, and boxed silly floored, and found religion after the Jimmy Young fight. In his comeback, he should have lost to Alex Stewart, and was buzzed a few times by journeyman, badly out boxed by Tommy Morrison, lucky on the cards vs Shultz and just had enough to beat Lou Saveresse. Might was well tell you he avoided Larry Holmes in the 1990's and early 00's too.
Name them. You brought it up. Name all the top 10 opponents Vitali beat and name all the top 10 opponents Foreman beat.
