yeah i think you guys have definitely touched on something regarding this fight and gameplans. margo basically did what he always does IMO and perhaps even though I thought Cotto looked showy in the 1st half of the fight (at times looking like sweet pea as he bobbed his head to make margo miss), i think this was a flaw as he shouldn't have been cornered like this in the 1st place. there was also constant showy head shots and not enough to the body which is always a mistake when used on someone with a rock for a head. again this has been said by many people before.
he's got a pretty good chin ... A+ for the chin but that's about it. I was more empress with Cotto's connect %, and how he made Margarito's ear flap like dumbo's.
I think a lot of the things you mentioned (like Margo missing, and having a low punch out put at the beginning) had a lot to do with how good Cotto is. And some other things just aren't Margo's strength. I'm not a master of the Margo's fighting style knowledge, but I do know that his physical strength, granite chin, stamina, power and heart is what makes him elite, not his speed or defense (although it is underrated). You make good points, but his performance was enough for me to not give him anything less than A-. (I give him an A)
I agree that Cotto's stamina problems were inflicted by Margo's punches. But I personally (it's just an opinion) don't really think Margo figured out Cotto. He had the right game plan. But I think the second round was Cotto testing Margo's manhood (or toe2toe fighting power), which I think backfired because the fight ended up with Cotto not being able to handle what Margo offered.
Margo gets an A+ he was masterful in his own style. Like the poster said he made mistakes, and got hit a lot. But he is not Floyd Mayweather he is Antonio Maragrito, this is the wayhe fights and he fought his ass off that night and got the job done in style. Based on his skill set he did an outstanding job!! He is on the honor roll this semester.
A rating on his performance or his ability to take a punch? He got hit with everything but the kitchen sink!!!! He was able to keep coming forward because he has ROCKS for brains.... If that is a talent then when his speech slurrs later in life.... will that still be considered one of his best attributes? Cotto will win the rematch anyways and shut a lot of the shamless Margie nuthuggers up. All of a sudden he is superman.....wake up ....PLEASE!!!!
:huh That's one of the best things about Cotto, I have to disagree, I've never seen anyone deny that.
I've pretty much said stuff like this. Either people want to put this performance on a pedastool because they didn't think he could win, they want to further endorse Cotto as a fighter, or the want to further endorse Margarito as a fighter. Keep in mind though alot of Cotto fans have rated this performance highly for the second reason I mentioned.
In boxing, everyone can't be a Picasso. He followed his trainers game plan, and his trainer is very underrated. He never flinched, and he kept the heat coming. When he saw a punch that landed, he tried it again, and again, and again lol. He used his defense when he got in close, and only got hit when Cotto was backing up, and those are the best punches to take if you have to take any lol...
I went B+ because I didn't see anything brilliant I thought Cotto fought poorly. But beating Cotto in itself is worth a B+.
