Wait, is 10 supposed to be the good end? I picked 2 thinking that that was the better side of the spectrum. Sorry if I made a mistake.

    1 being worst
    10 being best

Not sure of the number but i will vote soon. What i can say is that he was the best of a good era. Absolutely great in terms of effectiveness at the weight.

    That's okay,

I can't change my vote on the poll, but for the record I give Spinks probably 9 out of 10.

It's a good resume but how come he never fought Galandiz or Franklin

Good, but often overrated imo.A lot of his best names were fought in typical "young talent on the rise clears out faded names of the previous era" fights.

He's a bit like Ken Buchanan in that respect, except he was able to then establish himself as a great, rather than getting derailed by an even greater fighter.

    I'd say about a 7.

At least an 8, if not 9.

Franklin turned him down, and Galindez was dead.

I can't quite agree with that sentiment. Sure, it could apply to certain of his opponents (like Lopez perhaps), but not to the best of them. The best guys he beat were Mustafa and Qawi, and both of them were at the height of their careers.

Only Qawi was at his peak of the men usually associated with the great '70s era imo.

Mustafa should have been in better shape, but fact is he wasn't.He blew it and in retrospect never recovered his form for any length of time after his inept effort at Heavyweight.

I think he was a great. His competition was about an 8. He just missed the heyday era but honestly I'm not sure any of them beats him. The fact that Mustafa came in weak from losing the weight was Mustafa's fault. He did crush Johnson with a monster hook. He did outbox a prime Qwai. He had a very good chin, terrific power, good speed, an excellent jab and that funky style of his .. I'm not sure he's top five but definately top ten.

And to round things out Spinks and Saad were all but signed when Braxton cleaned Saad's clock.
