It's not great, but his upper body movement and quick feet give opponents plenty of problem. Pac is hit often, but that's just him-his aggressive style is to take shots at times to get his in.

Good post. Also, too many wide looping punches and when he is punching with both hands head is wide open. Better correct or Floyd is going to have target practice.

If I thought he had a shabby defense i wouldn't be such a big fan.

He has an excellent defense which is extremely underrated.

IMO, I think his defense has gotten a little better than what it use to be...He showed some good "D" in the Cotto fight on how he was able to cover up and negate Cotto's body attack.

I would rate his defense as above average.:good

you can't just say good at this point in his career...he just took 3 very good offensive fighters to school...before his last 3 fights, I would have voted that his defensive skills were almost non-existent...but obviously, this version of Pac is a completely different fighter...

unfortunately, some people still don't recognize this.

Average. The Guy makes up for his shortcomings with offense that's not great defense . At the end of the day he's not hard to land clean on. He doesn't slip punches that great or catch a lot of punches on his gloves or have great punch anticipation or take his opponents best weapon away.

    Between average & good.

He is the best offensive fighter in the sport tho.

Pac is pretty much the most attack-minded fighter in the world. He doesn't lie back in an over-cautious defensive shell throwing one punch at a time to minimize as much as possible the chances of being hit, he always always goes forward. And yet he hasn't been knocked down for years and years, despite facing a mixture of excellent opposition and naturally bigger opposition. He is rarely if ever visibly hurt either. Whereas he used to retreat in a straight line which would allow top quality attacking fighters like Morales to land on him repeatedly in sequence or back him up against the ropes, now his footwork prevents that happening and he only ever catches one punch at a time before he is on the move preparing his next assault (unless, like against Cotto, he wants to take punches to prove a point). I don't understand how someone who is so attack-minded yet virtually never gets dropped, hurt, or even has to weather serious storms cannot be considered as having a very effective defence.

I can accept `good` but excellent is pushing it, its his offence that prevents guys from landing plenty on him because they have to take Pac`s punches in order to do so as he throws in quantity, like 6 or 7 punch combo`s, all quite accurate & fast & powerful, the opponent always comes off worse... also... he takes a really good shot too so those that do get thru are quickly forgotten as Pac usually shrugs them off & comes back with better.

His actual defensive technique is nothing to write home about tho, it serves his style & attributes well tho so its defo not `bad,` we know that much.
