I've sparred him when he was an amateur. Good power and speed, aggressive and can throw some sneaky punches. His downside is that his defence is his offence which will see him unstuck against the best in my opinion. I remember before his first loss in the pros he was sparring against a guy who was the national amateur middleweight champion at the gym I was at and he was getting worked over pretty well... Seems to be doing well in the pro game so far, good luck to him
Have met Robbie in his gym and been to see him fight recently at the Iti Club here in North Perth. Robbie put on a very good showing. Lefty has a point, Robbie looked vulnerable at times by leaving his gaurd down and being slow off the mark to react with defense (that was what I took from his recent fight). That said he was aggressive and paced himself really well throughout the fight and always looked like he had plenty in the tank. Les Piper was a brutal fight and if he was going to lose any fight it was this one. Robbie by split and a very deserved win. Piper was the next step for him so it will be very interesting to see where he goes from here. Robbie hit Piper with some really big well timed combinations toward the end of the bout and appeared to weather the distance much better than most given it was a very even and tough fight to the end. Maybe a rematch with Frank LoPorto here in WA at middlewieght??
0/3 is not great results but at least I had the guts to get in there and offer enough encouragement (mostly in sign language) for only one of them to get brutally KO'd.
That trainer should have drawn diagrams at the end of each round to get his instructions across, huge error on his part. Besides, the guy from the Fist had a win earlier in the night by guiding his fighter to the final of the big boxing glove match up. And if I remember correctly his charge listened to his sagely advice of 'Have a sip of bourbon' and proceeded to win the next round.
1 i can confirm was 100% neutral, is a boxing trainer from the eastern suburbs of Perth & is not in favour of either side. He always has & will be a straight shooter hence my big respect for him & he called it a CLEAR robbery. The other is Tom a boxing fan for many years & a close friend of mine from South Freo way & over a few drinks said that it wasnt the worst robbery he had ever seen but was a robbery regardless.
