I'm not sure. Floored by a jab here, in his prime : This content is protected He took a pasting here, past his prime : This content is protected
His chin was solid. He never really faced a TRUE puncher though... Thurman, Berto, and Garcia aren't true punchers. But Guerrero could take a decent shot. His chin wasn't the problem. His crap defense was. I don't hold the Figueroa stoppage against him. He was totally used up.
Truly sums up the wonder of the chin, doesn't it? Dropped by a jab, hooks to the shoulder and neck, holds up against more than one horrible beating late in his career. Never poleaxed is always going to be the key, when appraising a really good chin though I think - i think he had one that could be seen as good at the very least.
Interesting question, since he was never demolished, but never fought anyone capable of demolishing him. There's no great punchers on that résumé, which sorta leaves it open to interpretation. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when all the evidence points in that direction. Would I stick my neck on the line and say that Pacquiao wouldn't hurt him? No. But I also wouldn't stick my neck on the line and say someone like Castillo would either. I'd say it's very good, just not proven enough to be great.
