In my eyes, either the best ever at the weight or at worst, second best. I think a match between he and Holyfield would have gone down as one of the best fights (or series of fights) in history, without question.

I believe that Marciano would have beaten any cruiser ever.

I would bet on him to beat any sub 200 pounder all time more times than not. Sometimes my thinking is it would be very close against Holyfield or Dempsey, but I tend to come back to Marciano.

I do wait with baited breath for Shawn Kemp's response.

holyfield did not have the experience at this time(cruiser) to make a close fight with marciano, holyfield fought a war with qawi, rocky would have stopped him by tko

Did Rocky Marciano even fight a cruiserweight who you would consider great and in their primes? He would beat any cruiserweight in boxing history? Tell that to Ted Lowry and Roland Lastarza who both beat him.

You will say but he beat Lastarza in the rematch right? Because Roland fought the second fighter differently after being robbed in their first fight. Ted Lowry was a bum who was 60 wins and 90 loses and Marciano never knocked him down in either of their fights and according to what I read in their first fight Ted Lowry battered Marciano for the first 5 rounds and had him seriously hurt and then backed off.

Yet you are telling me bigger better mordern cruiserweights couldn't beat him? Get the balls our of here.

    No.

He didn't fight great cruiserweights, he fought great heavyweights.

His opponents did not enjoy the protection of a weight class limiting the size of the opponents they had to face.

Great cruiserweight is something of an oxymoron.

He isn't "killing" Evander, no chance.

Maybe he'd beat him, but he's not having an easy night.

who knows? at the end of the day, he looked spectacular agains this opposition in his weight class. he'd be dealing with VERY different opposition, say against holyfield, jirov, toney type opposition.

i'm not saying marciano loses but just cause he dominated the heavies of the 50s doesn't mean he'd dominated cruisers in the 90s-2000s. they are different types of oppositions and how would he react against opponents who had very different styles and likely much faster

The chances of the top fighters of any period of the cruiserweight divisionsw history, comparinng favourably to the best fighters of any sort of 175lb heavyweight division, are next to none.
