About a 6, but let's remember he was in there vs an older and slower fighter. Maskeav was showing signs of starting to to out box Peter as the fight was unfolding. I do think Peter proved he could punch take a punch, and keep his focus. So I'll say a 6, but I'll also say if Vitlai is 80% of what he used to be, he's going to whip Peter.
Maybe a 2. He's slow, lethargic, lazy, uninspired, narcoleptic and fat. When he punches, it's not the result of muscle driving the fist, it's 250 pounds of whale blubber pushing a fist. Did I mention that I think he's fat?
You are in over your head. Your logic is flawed. Oleg is toast, yes, Sam took him out, but the fight was close. Oleg showed up.. King has tip-toed Sam thru various weak-chinned fighters.
Do you mean to tell me you think the Awesome Oaf's prefight meal includes ten scrambled eggs, three cups of grits, four servings of hashbrows, nine sausages and two milkshakes from Waffle House?
5! I didn't see anything special. Peter was slow, throwing looping punches, he couldn't put a china chinned fighter down with 20 power punches in a row. He was hurt the one time he was hit big.
The fight was close?!? Yea it was close alright. Your nose apparently was too close to Maskaev's crotch to see the rest of the screen. Back up somemore to see the fight next time!
Did I mention that with all his flaws, he won't make it past his first title defense. This dude is damaged goods. Want proof, listen to him make no sense at the end of the fight last night and observe him collapse from exhaustion. Peter is not now, nor has he ever been, nor will he ever be, championship material. He holds a trinket belt. THE Heavyweight Champion of the World is Dr. Wladimir Klitschko. Accept that now, and you'll feel better when he kicks Peter's ass in the rematch (again).
I give it a six. Seeing him in there reminded me of Riddick Bowe just in his size. He was able to get the knockout but I thought he could have looked better doing it
I gave him a 4... At the end of the day, a win is a win and he did get the job done and that's to be admired. It's not easy to rise up through the ranks and grab a piece of the HWT title and he's now done it. I only gave a 4 because I was shocked to see at how slow a pace he was content to fight and honestly, I feel like Peter really should've (could've) took out Oleg in like a round or two. But... Right from the start that fight seemed to be in slow motion... For whatever reason I expected Peter to come out pretty agressive and walk through Oleg.
That Peter is long gone. You can't simply attack guys with reckless abandon at the top level, no matter what you think of their abilities. That said, this was the more entertaining heavyweight title fight of the past couple weeks. Sam has speed and power still, he just conserves some and looks to avoid punches rather than eating them.
Yea he was highly mobile in the first fight alright. Grabbed Sam's left arm over 90+ times and turned his head away from the right hand. Leaned on Sam every chance he got and showed a general disrespect for many rules in boxing. A big man being "highly mobile" spells doom for only one person - him. You can't be that big and move away all night without becoming exhausted. And when he gets exhausted from all that panicky energy he will either get away with his constant molestation of better fighters, or he'll be properly penalized and promptly knocked out. Waldo fights nervous, everytime. He doesn't know how to be cool in the ring and that is what ultimately seperates him from other big men like Lewis and Bowe. Even his own older brother had a cooler head in the ring at times. If Sam comes in and does this defensive movement of bobbing under the jab and holding his right hand close to block the left hook, Waldo will have little to hit at a distance. And unlike guys like Byrd and Brock, Sam will know what to do once he gets in punching range. This new Sam Peter won't be so easy to hit down the middle. And that is the whole purpose of a rematch.
I agree if Wlad was cooler then he'd be better. Jermain Taylor has a bit of the same problem but not as bad. The worst ever was Gollota. He looked like he was having a panic attack, before fighting Lennox. Maybe Wlad should take a valium or hang out with some cool folks. At the elite levels a huge part is mental. And being nervous is giving the opponent a head start.
I could give Peter no more than a 2, his skills are not there, his stamina not so good, balance off. No wonder Don King is trying to get Peter out of fighting Vitali or Vlad. Vitali can and will take legal action, he has a singed agreement from the WBC as the Emeritus champion. Peter is running for a reason and King knows why.
