    Ken Norton who fought both fighters stated Ali hit harder than Holmes. Holmes speed while good does not rate near Ali both in terms of hand and foot.

    I've spoken with Shavers and he made it clear Ali hit harder.

    He stopped Foreman on exhaustion and Bonavena walked into a counter left hook.

    Again, if Foreman, or Liston or Tyson caught Lyle with a right hand and had him out on his feet like Ali did, and then followed up with 40 odd shots, you think Lyle would be alive to tell the tale?

    Ali was as I said, a good counter-puncher as the Lyle and Bonavena fights demonstrated. But his power is average at best. Period.

    Disagree. Foreman stated himself he felt Ali's right hand. He stated "their was just so many of those right hands I could take".

    Ali while no power puncher ala Foreman was a good hitter when his hands were not bothering him.

    His size, speed and punching technique were such his punches had to carry a decent level of power.

    No fighter no matter how powerful was able to walk through Ali. He staggered Liston, Frazier and Foreman well before any of them were tired.

    Nobody is saying he hit harder than the fighters mentioned above. In his 30 fights before the exile, only 6 people went the distance.

    What he had was the ability to hit guys clean. That's where the troubles start for opponents and that accumulation factor starts. They don't see it coming.

    The other big thing w/ Ali is he did it with band hands. Later on in his career he'd just take guys out to the deep waters and then drown them with those precision shots. Those openings were there but he would not fire until they were ready to be taken. But those ko's were gone > Frazier 3 or, I think before that and Foreman.

    How many of the other guys listed could have a major deterioration like that and continue to defend the title and adjust their style to get the wins?

    If Ali is such a big puncher, then Frazier isn't as chinny as some of you seem to think.
