The best kickers in the world? Let one of these guys take on a top Thai in a kicking competition and see whos still standing . The TKD fighters bodys and legs would be absolutely destroyed [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erlVpnk8Vy0[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1pMXMh5jOI&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
I disagree. Look at where the hands are in that video you posted - like I said earlier up the thread - nowhere. When you're fighting someone who stands more square and has a guard those great looking fancy kicks to the head become useless. They make themselves LOOK like the best kickers in the world, but they're not. This is no BS - a couple of months ago I sparred an international level TKD expert in kickboxing and held my own, and I'm a realtive kickboxing novice. If anything I was too respectful of his ability and regretted not trying to open him up more. We get loads at our gym, mainly higher grades who think they're going to come in and crush it. Most of them spar once and never come back.
Yeah but I think he meant they are the best at doing flashy kicks which you wouldn't ever use in a fight.
Its being done to death on these forums, TKD isnt as effective as other martial arts for self defence, just like boxing isnt, the only reason boxing is more effective than TKD in self defence at times is because the majority of untrained people in a fight will try to punch you in the face rather than steam through you with a back kick, they play your game, so it works for the style. if a guy at a bar came upto a seasoned TKD competitor and tried to KO him with kicks hed never really used much before he would be in a lot of trouble too lol, just like anyone would if they tried to box a boxer, or roll with a JJB practisioner. I have little to say about TKD as a self defence but as a sport it teaches lessons a lot of people could benefit from learning, the fact you have to master very awkward techniques to a very high level before even attempting to use said techniques functionally to land against a resisting opponent takes a lot of dedication and conditioning that most people just cant be consistant enough with their training to achieve. however i do believe TKD takes a lot of un-******ted stick for being a wuss sport which is just bull, when i was 8 i had numerous concusions, bust/broken nose, i took nasty kicks to the throat and jewels, i broke bones in my feet kicking elbows and still have problems with my feet today because of this. and i weighed next to nothing competed at 6st through to 9 and a half stone till i was 14. and we didnt have gloves on our feet to protect our faces when we got kicked lol. In my opinion i got hurt more in TKD than i ever have in boxing, i box at Super middle and the worste injury's ive had are nothing really a black eye and bruised bridge and fat lips, apart from that i havent sustained any real bad injuries.
LOL international expert at your kickboxing class, sure. what the **** was he doing there then? lol I went to a kickboxing class and KO'd the coach with a reverse heel kick, TKD is better than kickboxing regardless of the fighters involved.
:-( Have you even sparred anyone before? the hands depends on what federation they compete under as to weather or not hand strikes score as a point, unless they fought in the W.T.F federation then they have never competed useing their hands as scoring strikes thus will keep their hands low to block kicks instead. otherwise the hands are high like a kickboxer, amature TKd fighters fight 3x5 minute rounds with these intense energy wasting kicks, if you think they will gas from throwing their arms around in a more ecenomical fasion for 2 or 3 minute rounds then your lacking common sense or ride the special bus to school. Id like to see some of these video's of you guys owning international TKD fighters in these kickboxercise classes lol. i suggest you get yourself onto the olympic squad and travel the world if your that effortlessly gifted :rofl internet boxers on these forums crack me up somtimes.
Don't try to be a smartass atsch Ballet and gymnastics aren't combat sports and they don't kick either.
it all depends on how the individual wants to apply his or her training. Ernie Reyes Jr. has a hardcore background in TKD and then converted into thai fighting. But his base style made it an easy transition for him.
From a boxing point of view and having sparred with MMA, muay thai, kung fu, and other practitioners at different levels I think the guy was taking it easy on the girls. He seemed well rounded and sparred from a defensive position where he used alot of side to side head movement and parrying, but might of been alittle too overconfident dropping his guard even against a female I think he just or more like the 3 of them need to take it more seriously. As for the girls their defense is bad, need to work on their form on their punching or striking as they call in martial arts instead of flapping in the air. Learning basic 1-2-3 combinations followed by a kick works well in any discipline. Jab works great in mma not just boxing. Overall they should really, really work on their striking at close, mid, and long range. Grab some 1-2lb weights and do 3 rounds shadow boxing.
"rate the skill of these people sparring" Why, it's completely irrelevant? This is a boxing forum. The majority of the people here don't have a clue what martial art this is, let alone it's effectiveness. I don't get the whole "this wouldn't be effective in a fight!" Who gives a ****? They're not meant to be fighting, they're having a grading in a sport they enjoy. What's the problem with that? They're not attempting to compete in other sports using this style. How about next you post a video of 2 guys cooking pancakes and we can evaluate their style, it'd be just as relevant as this.
I think even more people on this forum would have better knowledge on how to cook pancakes than they have on TKD
