This isn't a thread to debate who the top heavyweights are, this is just my opinion. This is a thread to discuss, debate and rank the top heavyweight candidates punch resistance. In no particular order I feel the top heavyweights at the moment are: Fury Wlad Wilder Povetkin Joshua Haye Rank these heavyweights in order from best to worst chin, I will post my list later on after some more thought. Thoughts?
Duhaupas and Wach are probably #1 and #2 in either order. In your grouping: Povetkin Wlad Fury Joshua Haye Wilder But honestly, they are all close to each other, I don't see big differences.
Agreed. Neither of them could take the beating that Wach took from Wlad and Povetkin. All were dropped or hurt as a pro, most of them were stopped/dropped in the amateurs too. Neither has glass chin, too.
Wach is the man. But with Duhaupas I see more of a guy with low output from a sheltered guard with a wide power stance.
I agree with Durhaupas and Wach, but they are easy to distinguish. I posted those names because not only do I think they are the top fighters in the division, but also I feel they are ranked closely in terms of punch resistance. I think we can safely say that none of the top HW's have a great chin, which is strange.
It's strange that huge fighters of today all can crack almost any chin in the history of the sport, besides maybe Wach and Valuev?!
Wach Povetkin Duhaupas No one else of note. Duhaupas has a good beard, but Helenius is shot from shoulder/hand injuries, and Wilder's power is dramatically overated,
It is strange, actually. Good point. Most era's in HW history has at least one ATG with a great chin. K era: Vitali Lewis et al era: Holyfield, Foreman (some would say Tyson too) Holmes era: Holmes 60-70's: Ali 50's: Marciano
A human chin can only take so much. Vitali were not as tested as Wladimir. He was tall and akward. When Sanders landed his money shot, he couldn't execute that opportunity. I'm sure Vitali would have being dropped some time if he fought against the likes of Wladimir, Joshua, or a younger Lewis. You need power, reach and skill to reach Vitali. Just count the number of times Povetkin took huge shots compared to Vitali. Small men with skills takes way more power shots than tall men with skills.
Wach has never been down, Duhaupas has though. Wach was hurt briefly against Wlad albeit not like he was about to get dropped or anything, in the 7th or 8th round IIRC when Wlad really opened up on him and clocked him with a series of huge shots (which I think was towards the end of the round), and Povetkin rocked him at the end of the 6th round with a big right hand flush on the chin. He wasn't hurt but he definitely felt the shot right down to his boots and it wobbled him a bit. I don't recall ever seeing him close to going down in any of the fights I've seen of his though.
I watched those fights closely and it's astonishing how good his chin is. If someone elite like Klitschko and Povetkin hit you like that at the heavyweight division (more like super heavyweight division in fact), you should be going out or at least hit the ground. It's only thanks to his chin that he survived in those two fights, his skills are extremely inferior to those two. If I could have any attribute from any fighter, I'd have Wach's chin.
Yeah, if there's one thing he can do it's take a hell of a shot. Very few fighters would be able to remain vertical after shipping some of the shots Wlad and Povetkin clocked him with, especially the amount of them he took.
