I don't think that Witherspoon looked good and sharp against Bruno. He was nowhere near as good with his jab, and punches in general or as quick as he was against Holmes 3 years earlier.
He was more experienced in 1986, yet he was always inconsistent like many 1980's heavyweights. He was a fast heavyweight and had a good chin and just a little better than all the other guys. To me he was between the level of Holmes and guys like Berbick/Tubbs/Pinklon/Tucker etc. He was a step up, and Mike would not have knocked him out easily, and that right hand of Witherspoon was hard. And Don King did not want Tim to fight Mike.
Tim Witherspoon has my vote as the best of that bunch... You can pick and choose placements for the rest of them.
You may want to check on some of these things.... Page LOST to Witherspoon. Page and Smith didn't even meet each other until around 1992, when both men were shot, which has no bearing on what they did in the 80's anyway.. Coetzee was off for 15 months and may be the only real elite win of Page's career... No way should Page rate higher than Tim Spoon.
Page did beat Renaldo Snipes when they were fighting for the shot at Larry Holmes, in some ways, that is an elite win.
Not too many people had Bonecrusher's power. Greg had strong power in both hands, especially his right, and his speed was second to no one except maybe Michael Dokes, and to some degree, that's debatable.
There seem to be quite a few posters on this thread who are ranking Page higher than Tim Witherspoon.. If you feel that he had more potential, more talent and looked better on film, then that's fine... But if this is an argument about who should rank higher based on what they actually ACHEIVED, then he can't be rated above Spoon..
