Great fight one of my favorites. Real war of attrition, Gonzalez forced Kelly out of his comfort zone and really broke his will. I think this fight took a lot out of Kelly in future fights, but it was a good one. These kind of fights where you have a champion forced to fight a different fight by a young opponent always turn out to be wars. Kelly just couldnt keep Gonzalez off of him.
I agree at the time Kelley was a top star in boxing that had it all. I really wish I could find video of the entire fight.
This is one of my all-time favourite fights, it's unfairly overlooked in discussions of the best fights of the 90s.
I am shocked that only a few people commented on this fight. Gonzalez was a virtual unknown in this fight and Kelley was a top 10 P 4 P fighter at the time. I imagine its due to the fact that their is little footage of either fighter in prime shape on youtube. By the way Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. is my avatar and he is probably one of the best prospects in boxing.
