The lad as a good ABA record,,so he as a good chance of being a good pro,,,he just needs to ditch the pad man & find a great coach to tweak couple of thinks with is form
There are , I guess, ferent ideas about what you try to accomplish using the mitts. Mine is that you should try to make it as much like actual boxing as is possible. Given that, I don't see what was accomplished there. My idea is to create, as much as possible, scenarios where the boxer avoids a punch, counters, then escapes. We move a lot, and move fast, and the exchanges go pretty quickly. Different approaches, I guess. As to the boxer, I think you would be better served to turn your shoulders and hips when you punch. When Tyson came around, it became popular to "move your head when you punch". So you'd see people throw a bunch of punches then move their head side to side about two inches in each direction. What that really means is to turn your shoulders. This not only enables you to punch through your target, with your body weight rotating behind the punch, but it gets your head out of the way as well. I mean no disrespect here, but what I say is true, and I've proved it many times, to fighters much younger and stronger than myself. The way you are punching, just by catching your punches and turning my hips, I could rock you onto your heels. This is because I would be a half beat ahead of your punches and catching your arm punches with my body weight turning into them. Get your hips into your punches and turn your shoulders. The shoulders protect the chin, the hips preserve the balance.
sorry. just to clarify. I AM NOT THE BOXER IN THE VIDEO!!!! some good technical thoughts on here. was just curious to see what people though of a boxer wsho has achieved soimething.
Where is the rt, hook, Comeback with the right hook after the straight left or left uppercut. Triple jabs. And combos, finishing with a hard left hook. That would be good.
With your trainers padwork he is bringing the pads up a fair bit to catch your punches. It makes you look very skillful but its better for him to make you punch more to you. No one sticks their chin out when you punch them
When you throw your straight left you drop your lead right hand. If you are fighting an orthodox fighter that is a very easy left hook knock out... You have good speed and move well. You stick your chin up in the air though for some reason? You put it on a plate when moving in which is dying for an upper cut...
Interestingly I was at a show the other night and was watching a lad on the pads warming up and he looked pretty much a novice. A talented novice but lots of room for improvement as far as the pass went. He wins his fight and after some further investigation it turns out he was a top class amateur, multiple aba champion.... The pads are only a mild indication of someone's talent.
i hate to quote pbf but here we go: "we all hit the bag and mitts the same, but we all don't fight the same"
