Wow the list of fighters is so amazing but at the same time has me a little sad. Most of these fighters I have watched for the past 15-18 years. **** man where did the time go?
1. Mayweather 2. Hopkins 3. Marquez 4. Ward 5. Toney 6. Mosley 7. Klitschko 8. Cotto 9. Bradley 10. Yamanaka 11. Guerrero 12. Malignaggi 13. Miura 14. Uchiyama 15. Cleverly
I think Floyd and Wlad are locks. Handicapping the rest, I'd rank it: Hopkins, Marquez, Ward in order of likelihood, with Hopkins the clear favorite of the three.
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr 2. Bernard Hopkins 3. James Toney 4. Juan Manuel Marquez 5. Andre Ward 6. Miguel Cotto 7. Shane Mosley 8. Wladimir Klitschko 9. Timothy Bradley 10. Shinsuke Yamanaka 11. Takashi Uchiyama 12. Robert Guerrero 13. Paulie Malignaggi 14. Takashi Miura 15. Nathan Cleverly
Hopkins Marquez Floyd Bradley Ward Wladimir Toney Cotto Mosley Uchiyama Yamanaka Guerrero Miura Malignaggi Cleverley That's my order, and this is based on their accomplishments not just winning meaningless titles against the weakest champion of a weight class like someone on this list. Both Hopkins and Marquez fought and beat killers and fellow pound 4 pound elite fighters In Opponent's Their Primes unlike someone else below them.
Floyd Toney Hopkins Marquez Ward Wladimir Cotto Mosley Bradley Yamanaka Uchiyama Malignaggi Guerrero Cleverley Miura Too many people sleeping on Toney. The guy fought in five weight classes. Let's see Ward or Hopkins fight Evander Holyfield, John Ruiz, Hasim Rahman, and Samuel Peter. See how well they do. Floyd and Marquez are the only other guys on that list who fought in five weight classes. Cotto did four. The rest of these people look like straight cowards in comparison.
How does anyone reconcile Ward over Wlad? I get that Andre is technically undefeated, but the difference in longevity and dominance at the top is staggering. Wlad has 29 title fights. Andre has 32 fights total (9 title fights), most of which in a much less historically prestigious division.
This is another amazing aspect for boxing in 2017. Unfortunately we can't vote 5 years from now who to get in to Canastota, but people with boxing credential will have to think a bit harder that year lol. I must point out, there is one semi active fighter who fought these HOFers 10 times, and managed to put all but 1 onto the canvas and he's still hang in there. The truly special: Manny ATG Pacquiao.
Cool thread and a tough one too Floyd Toney Ward Hopkins Wlad Marquez Mosley Cotto Bradley The rest can be argued too much I think. Clev bottom of the pack though
