That guy was a throwback fighter who would fight any and everybody, many times he went into high risk fights with low reward, his obsession with RJJ made him follow a path in his career he shouldn't have.
I don't think he was ever obsessed with Roy. Once his name/reputation was established, he just went after the most lucrative fights available ...regardless of weight.
Trinidad was awesome the F#$%@r give some of his purse to Winky Wright so He can fight him, because Winky like always prices himself out. And Winky was a very high risk fight and still fought him and lost.
10/10 huge heart, wasn't afraid of anyone. He wanted to fight the best, and that's what he did. Even offered DLH a rematch 7 different times so he can settle their controversial decision. One of my favorite fighters of all time.
He only knew one way to fight go hard or don't go at all he was like a robot programmed to swing hard and fast until the other guy stopped throwing. Throwback for sure
he was good. overrated as a welterweight his best wins were carr and campas and then no one for 5 years. still very tough and was always in good shape
as far as im concerned, his fights against campas, vargas, hopkins, wright and jones jr. illustrate his heart.
after receiving a beating from hopkins and that flush right hand, he beat the count and his father knew his desire to fight on could end up worse. so he stop the fight. But tito had that never give up attitude
campas was a little pitbull and pushed tito to the brink, vargas was relentless and they honestly went blood and guts in that one. hopkins was naturally bigger and an overall better fighter, and tito never said die, and both wright and jones jr. picked him apart, but tito never seemed to even think about not finishing the fight. grade A warrior in my opinion. I would have loved to see him vs. mosley.
He was the undefeated , unified and undisputed Long term welterweight champion of the world as well as undefeated, unified and undisputed Light Middlewight champion of the world. A real throwback. One of the greatest welterweights in history alongside both Sugar Rays, Pernell, Hearns, Mayweather et al,.
He started talking about fighting Roy while still at WW, he moved up to MW less than a year after being at JM, he even came out of retirement to fight Roy in 2009.
always got up like nothing happened after being put down. always fought the best. never gave up. heart of a warrior. like the poster up top just said. i miss him too. great fighter. one of the best ever.
