It was a good win for Morrison it put him in postion for a mega fight with Lennox Lewis. Unfortunately Bentt killed that momentum and his career truly never recovered.

Near enough his best win, to say that Foreman went on to win the lineal belt.
A few didn't give Morrison a chance I recall, citing his chin and Foreman s power.
Tommy fought the only way he could there against him, with out him being knocked flat out.
It was a change of style for the Duke, but it paid off.

Tommy showed enough humility to try something different. He did what it took to win. Like the old trainers used to say. 'Win today, look good next time.
For Big George at that stage he was thrown off by any side to side footwork. George showed a helluva chin though. The same hooks that decapitated Razor Ruddock hardly moved Foreman.

    Real nice win.

Especially considering most folks thought his strategy would be to use his quick left hook in there and tag George in an exchange. He actually buckled down and fought a smart disciplined fight---which very few people thought he could do.

And credit goes to Tommy Virgets also for implementing the right tactics and getting a guy like Morrison to buy into it and obey.

Now perhaps if foreman would have caught him and hurt him bad, Tommy reverts to what he had always done. But he did not let that happen. So we also saw Morrison being defensively responsible. For 12 rounds even, not 3 or 5. I sure didn't predict that as part of his game. Actually, did not think he was capable.

But Morrison being Morrison would not fight a disciplined fight like that again. But he sure did on a night when he needed to.

At the time, Tommy was thought of as a puncher who liked to brawl and who had his limitations as a boxer, so the fight plan and performance kind of surprised me. Even at the age of 44 or so, old George was a tough proposition and you just don't walk into him and exchange. I thought Tommy fought a clever, disciplined fight, showed he did have some boxing skills and got quite a good win.

It was a very good win.

Tommy fought smart - he executed a sensible gameplan by moving and flurrying. George could not handle his handspeed as Tommy was never standing right in front of him for George to time him.

Yes, It is probably Morrison's best win.

    I disagree.

If he stood right in front of George and traded blows, his weak chin would have caused him to get TFKO.

Adopting and then executing the gameplan he did was quite impressive.

He clearly outlanded and oupointed Big George.

One of his best three wins. Only a very good heavyweight could have beaten that Foreman on that night. Morrison was his own worst emery at times, that night he was focused.

It was also so fascinatingly uncharacteric for him to fight that way. It's just as you said, he really got himself together for that fight.

Poor. You don't get credit for beating an old guy, regardless.

My memory of that fight is of being profoundly embarrassed for both of them.

Good win. The perception was that Tommy was a limited slugger and this was viewed as a very winnable fight for George to go out with a belt on. The odds had it even money heading in to it.

If we're perfectly honest, absolutely nobody would've picked Morrison on points today had the fight not actually happened.
