Holyfield picked up a big win over Rahman in 2002,but went down tamelyb on points against Chris Byrd the same year.Toney was only the second man to stop Holyfield.
You could argue it it Toney's best win at HW (Ruiz doesn't count, he was on roids). Holyfield at that stage was far past prime, but since that fight he's never been beaten to the same degree (he won a couple of rounds against Donald and Ibragimov) or stopped (Riddick Bowe if I remember rightly was the only other man to stop him). So it's a good win, but of course Evander was a shell of the man who beat Tyson, but still a top 10 heavy.
Between good and very good; while Holy was past his best he was still a legit, seasoned and highly trained Heavyweight. Toney, as a former middleweight, came in significantly heavier than expected and still put on a great display. It wasn't exactly an earth shattering result but it was a damn great feat. On top of that Toney looked calm and composed as ever, and he battered and stopped a man that had survived and beaten people like Tyson.
It's a little hard to rate. Holy had looked pretty good in the Rahman fight (and some of the ruiz fights), but looked like crap vs Byrd and claims to have suffered a significant shoulder injury in the byrd fight which continued to plague him trhough the donald fight (according to Holy). Holy looked pretty bad after the first couple of rounds vs Toney, but Toney looked good and sharp. I'd say decent to good HW win.
Insignificant, it seemed as if Holyfield had pillows in his gloves. His punches had no snap. I always wondered if he had gotten laid before the fight.
Toney's win was superb. Only recently have I come to realize what a great fighter Toney was. For me, it's astounding to see a natural middleweight stand right in front of heavyweights and outpunch them, all because the little guy has better command of boxing fundamentals. I give Toney full credit for his wreckage of Holyfield, even though Holyfield was over the hill when they fought. Toney has my full respect. I only wish I appreciated the guy years earlier.
Former middleweight stopping top-5 ring magazine ranked heavyweight must be considered a great victory. He used them to heal faster from his bicep injury.
