Usyk probably took the most hard shots in his career last night from a monstrous puncher, he didn't go down once and wasn't close to going down. I think we are now qualified to give his chin a proper rating. He's fought Gassiev who landed a nuke on him at the end of one of the middle rounds and Usyk stood up, he was visibly shaken by it though He's fought Briedis who is a big puncher and wasn't ever close to going down and Briedis did find some big shots, I can vaguely remember one in round 12 that would have knocked down most other men. He's fought AJ twice who is one of the biggest punchers in boxing, AJ landed a few good right hands on Usyk in the first fight but in the rematch Usyk took some huge shots and wasn't close to going down. He's also fought Bellew, Glowacki, Chisora and maybe Hunter who are all hard punchers and didn't trouble Usyk. Give it a rating from 1-10 10 being Golovkin, Wach, Chuvalo 1 being Amir Khan I'd personally give it a 9 or 9.5, he's been hurt visibly but never close to going down and he's faced a collection of massive punchers
9. Great chin but his defense helps him a lot. If he were to take the shots Hrg did I think he would be KOd.
Since he has never been down as a pro, has to be a 10. Even as a n amateur, he was rarely down, and the most famous instance, against Beterbiev, was a body shot.
Was very concerned last night, his legs clearly went from taking big punches & fatigue. Managed to get in the clinch and AJ missed all his follow up punches. Crowd made it seem like Usyk was more hurt than he was
He eaten several flush hard money punches from some of the biggest punchers at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight, while shaken up a time or two, he's never been on Bambi legs, visibly woozy or out on his feet, so it's rock solid. So... a 9 or maybe even 10 from me.
His chin is good but he also has very good survival tactics, he was always moving and trying to clinch. I remember when Gassiev hit him with an overhand and he grabbed onto him instantly
His chin is just another consistent part of the elite world class package that Usyk is. He's getting a 10 from me.
Nine for me. The guy is tougher than a two dollar steak. Aside from being great defensively and having a great chin, he has a will to win and to fight through adversity. It's debatable how hurt he was in the 9th round but Joshua without question was beaming with confidence in between rounds. Usyk came back with Holyfieldesque fury in the 10th and took Joshua's heart in the process.
Although his boxing brain minimises the amount of punishment he takes and he does look like he is in trouble when its really just his evasive actions, the flush right AJ countered him in the 10th round would have ko'd most fighters. It reminded me of Lucas Brown's counter right on Chagev and he was in all sorts of bother but Usyk just shook it off and kept going.. 10 for me..
Chin held up very well. Joshua's one big round the 9th, Usyk came out like a lion in the 10th so his recovery powers are top notch. The fight was won there and then unless you're name is Glen Coco Feldman.
He doesnt take a whole lot of hard shots. But this is boxing. You dont face the best like he does without getting tagged hard a few times. When Gassiev hit him flush he was visibly hurt. Same with AJ. Visibly hurt, but didn't wobble. I'd say 8.5 hes clearly got an excellent chin. But hes no Margarito or Mayorga in the chin department. A 10 is the type of chin where you flat out eat flush bombs and just walk right through it. Edit: Although you could make the argument his chin is a 9.5 or maybe even 10 considering that he fights at HW. Punching power increase outpaces the increase in punch resistance in the higher weight classes. It's easier to walk through bombs at Welterweight than it is Heavyweight.
Hard to rate it fare. Like Vitali Klitschko he is not caught clean often enough. I say its a bit overrated like Vitali Klitschko maybe a 7 or 8 at heavyweight.
