Disagree. Ali landed many shots in every round, controlled the pace of the fight, and slipped a lot of the punches shavers seemingly landed.

Shavers just "wowed" the crowd with every significant shot. It happens with fights with big punchers often.

-If ali lands 10 "ok", "good", and "weak" punches in the round, only missing a few.

-and shavers lands 2 crappy ones and 1 or 2 big rounds every round, but also misses a dozen punchs...

Oh no i agree that ali was legit hurt a few times that was kind of the whole point of my argument that shavers either dropped, stopped, or severely hurt nearly everyon he fought. His reputation is well earned.

Im specifically reffering to the infamous 2nd round. Ali was a master of psychology and made shavers hesitate and doubt his punch. His team didnt help by constantly cautioning him to conserve his energy for fear of falling victim to a rope a dope and being stopped late. Honestly both men were essentially playing poker and a game of chicken nearly all night until they both realized they could go all out in the later rounds.

I think poor briggs' judgement is clouded by the fact he stood there and soaked up dozens of shots from a big guy when he was 38, washed up, and obese. Idk how old u r, but its kind of like eating an entire bag of candy as an adult vs as a kid. As a kid it was like a slice of heaven but as an adult your perspectice is completely different! Likely lots of headaches, sugar crashes, regrets, and swearing as an adult.

Notice lewis dispatched of him after 3 knockdowns and against foreman he got on his bicycle and ran for 12 rounds, preferring to not mix it up with a man twice his age??? Strange. Point being, he stood in front of vitali and took way more punishment in those 12 rounds (as an old man) than he did when lewis finished him under 6 and foreman had to chase him all night to land anything (mostly jabs).

Most of the reasonable posts agree with me: vitali was good, above average or even great clubbing power but he was definitely no KO artist or anywhere near being the hardest hitter of all time as Mendoza likes to insinuate. He fought in a weak era against plodders who came straight towards him and he still took several rounds to stop them, that says a lot.
