Rate Vitali Klitschko punching power

This is the exact opposite to how I see it.

It was Ali trying to wow the crowd with his eye catching flurries, most of which Shavers blocked on the gloves. Those were the only times the crowd really started to go wild, though it was mostly ineffective shoe shining designed to steal the round. Besides that his output consisted of skipping around the ring throwing out a weak jab that either fell short or was slipped or blocked by Shavers and the odd right hand/left hook.

Shavers was the one setting the pace for much of the contest, dictating the course of the action and landing the scoring shots, including some ferocious body work that wasn't really acknowledged for some reason. Ali, being Ali, gave the illusion that he was in control, but he was getting seriously whacked about and put under enormous pressure.

In the end I could only really give the fight to Ali based on workrate, since he was outgunned in so many of the other categories.

By that token can we also dismiss Ali's comments on Shavers as well? What about Holmes? No one is in any position to tell when a fighter's judgement is being impaired, especially when they're taking huge shots from other big hitters. You either take them at their word, or you don't.

For the record, I don't believe Vitali was the hardest puncher Briggs ever fought. I'd say that honour belongs to either Foreman or Lewis. But that's based on the same reasoning you gave above. I also don't think Shavers hit Holmes the hardest either, using similar reasoning.

I gave him a seven myself. Anything lower than that is entering feather fist territory, and Vitali was too heavy handed for that. But then I probably wouldn't give Shavers more than an eight due to his own failings in the ring.

Solis sustained a leg injury and the fight was waived off.

You think Solis pretended he was injured? That's why he had surgery for a ruptured cruciate ligament and a torn knee cartilage immediately after the fight! You imbecile!

 

Yeah but Briggs fought way past his prime against Vitali. Contrarily, Briggs was in his prime when he fought Foreman but that was past Foreman's prime. So these two scenarios cannot be fairly compared to get a proper read. We will never get a proper read. Different era, different times.

BERLIN -- Odlanier Solis has sustained serious knee injuries in his first-round knockout defeat by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on Saturday.


The 30-year-old Cuban was taken to hospital, where a scan revealed tears to his anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus, as well as cartilage damage in his right knee.

The crowd in Cologne was disappointed by the 179-second bout. The fans booed and whistled for several minutes after it ended.

Klitschko said he's "sorry for the spectators. I don't fight for me, I fight for them."
