I gave him an 8. Let's look at the facts here: -He barely lost more than 1 round, if that -He knocked out a fighter that had never been down before -He wasn't bothered by the cut, bruises and roughness caused by the (unintentional) butts -Thompson is an akward 6'6" 250lbs southpaw whom no one looks good against -Wlad threw many powershots, i don't have punchstat numbers, but he never showed any signs of fatigue, despite the added wrestling in the clinches and fighting a big guy. So, in terms of "did Wlad look good", i'd give him a 6 or so. But his performance in terms of winning rounds and getting the KO was definitely worth an 8.
I found the fight totally un-entertaining, but Wlad did appear to make the other guy quit both mentally and physicaly. 6 or a 7, I gave him a 7.
You would think that with the quality of his jab and his handspeed that doubling-up his jab would create more opportunities for him. And also, why doesn't he snap his jab? What's up with the pawing? I don't think it benefits him. Don't get me wrong, I am not a hater; I just think that Klitschko is capable of so much more than what he has shown us.
I am a Vlad fan. I wasn't real happy but he did win and he got the tko. he is a hard person to figure out. I would love to see him throw more and force the person to cover up more instead of clinching so much. I would like to see him throw the jab harder and hook off of it. I also think in this fight after you throw the right you should throw the left hook over his lead, the temple is the spot you hit. he also looke a little tired. I realize that in fighting you have to have great concentration perhaps that stresses him out a bit. He did look better after the 5th round Which is why I gave him a 6. He is a smart fighter though, that is why he will be difficult to beat. The next fight against Povetkin will be interesting because of povetkins skill. How will Vlad fight then?
It's sad when you can't get credit for overcoming slight adversity due to an odd style, dominating, and knocking out your opponent. Wlad's critics won't be happy until he fights handcuffed, allows his opponent to hit him flush 200 times in the chin, and then breaks the handcuffs and knocks his opponent out with one shot.
