it's an ok tune-up. something a fighter may take after a couple of years off. no guarantee that it would prepare you for Ward though.

:lol: go watch some of his fights man, he doesnt have a stiff jab and hardly controlled a fight with it...what he did have was good speed, some boxing skills and great stamina....if you wanna see a great southpaw jab watch Pernell Whitaker, wanna see a very good one watch Michael Nunn...im an idiot because i have a difference of opinion, bet you have never been in a ring and wouldnt know the difference

All these comments about joe and his slapping.. Yes he was guilty of not turning his fist proper. When Joe wanted to he could bang.. Ask Byron Mitchell. On the other hand ward hasn't exactly showed me he can ko anybody and doesn't have much pop at all. Very skilled at what he does but is hardly a man to fear unless you are scared of loosing. Joe threw loads of slaps combined with some hurtful blows and completely ruined a young strong fighter in Lacey... So for me as a young up and coming fighter it would have to be ward

great post...Calzaghe didnt have proper punching techique and threw alot of arm punches but looking back at his fights when he was younger he did have good pop, its just that he shoe shined alot....based on their respective skills tho I'd rather fight him because he usually fought the same way and you would have an easier time gauging how to approach a fight with him

Calzaghe used to fight with power. When his hands got worse he stopped loading up and comepensated by upping his punch output dramatically, not turning his hands over to save time.

Calzaghe was better at 35 than he was at 25.

He did Jab, and I'd rather fight Ward.

Ward doesn't throw much, and lacks dynamite power himself. So I'd rather take 100 odd clean shots than something like 700. (Numbers seem high, but how many pro fighters punches do you expect do block or dodge?)
