How would you rate his skills? Scale - Poor, Average, Good or Excellent. Defense: Counter-Punches: Power: Jab: Speed: Ring Generalship: Combinations: Feints: Footwork: Body Punches:
Defense: Average Counter-Punches: Excellent Power: Excellent Jab: Excellent Speed: Average Ring Generalship: Good Combinations: Excellent Feints: Good, Very Good Footwork: Average Body Punches: Excellent
Arguello's speed was actually pretty good down at FW. I remember someone on here once tried to argue that Erik Morales' speed was better than Arguello's, but a simple side-by-side comparison proved otherwise. Morales: [yt]GFmrqsm-0xs[/yt] Arguello: [yt]khukXLnzT5M[/yt] [yt]n63avwCIQkI[/yt]
Yeah, but Morales wasn't a speedster either. I think Arguello's speed is fairly average on a grand scale of things at the weight. He's certainly not slow, as he's too often labeled, but there's nothing special about how quickly he moves his hands or legs. His timing is what set him apart.
Morales is outright faster than Arguello at his best, allot faster and superior footwork too. Anyway: Defense: Good, but because of his footwork his defense can be opened up Counter-Punches: very good, a strength Power: ATG Jab: good, a little slow, could be a lazy jab at times (perhaps intentionally), could do with doubling/trebbling it Speed: average Ring Generalship: Good Combinations: When finishing excellent, maybe could vary his punches more when breaking his man down Feints: He ses them but to an extent he's a little predictable Footwork: Efficient and good control of range but little variety, he can certainly be outmoved on the front and back foot because of this Body Punches: Excellent, ATG although I think if he went to the body more consistantly it would benefit him breaking down tricky opponents
Right so you take a fighter when 1 fighter is weight drained in his last fight at the weight, he's tired in round 8 with a broken nose and compare it to a fresh Arguello, nice comparison and even then when Morales lets his hands go hes blatantly quicker
What on earth are you talking about?? This was Morales' best performance in literally YEARS, and he continued to fight at the same for several fights afterward. No he's not. Arguello throws quicker flurries, and cuts off a quicker and more mobile opponent.
No version of Arguello is nearly as quick as this Morales [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJHCmQPGjqo&feature=related[/ame] or this 1 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LChFdNRxIHI[/ame] And the fight you picked, well I don't see Arguello looking nearly explosive as Morales from 1:05-1:10 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5kXk6AJdSo[/ame]
Defense: Between average and good Counter-Punches: Excellent Power: - Excellent ++ Jab: Good Speed: Between average and good Ring Generalship: Between average and good Combinations: Good Feints: Would need to see a few of his fights again. Footwork: Average Body Punches: Excellent Arguello's downfall was durability, average foot speed, and lack of clinching skills. Stamina could have been a little better to.
atsch Based on what exactly? Sounds like you have just seen the Pryor fight and even then have a severly ******ed opinion. Anyway here's my opinion. Defense: Average-Good His defence was mostly made up of parry's and blocks which he did extremly well, perhaps one of the best ever in this pillar of defence. He also had pretty decent head movement but could be accused of being a bit 'straight up', however it is his lack of foot mobility that was the major flaw defensivly. Counter-Punches: Excellent Arguello was a superb counter-puncher, picking his timing and spots excellantly and really exploiting openings with hard one-punches or even combinations. He said before the first Pryor fight, he only needed 'one punch around to make it tell', and it was almost true. Power: Excellent One of the hardest punchers ever. To the body and the head. Jab: Excellent Used his jab superbly as a weapon, range-finder, combo starter and a tool to cut off the ring. Especially down at Feather and Super-Feather. Watch the Kobayashi fight for Arguello's scientific use of the jab. Speed: Average He wasn't known for his speed, but he wasn't a tin man. He was fluid and pretty quick just nothing outstanding. His feet were slow but his hands could be quick in combo's. Ring Generalship: Excellent Always poised and calm under pressure or being out-boxed. Tended to favour long term strategies and put effort into his plans that would often come into there own later in the fights. Very efficient in everything he did. Could be out-manuevered in shorter distance fights but stayed calm and more than often broke them down late. Combinations: Excellent Put his shots together very well, used his bodies momentum to its fullest, every shot was hard, crisp and thrown correctly. Mixed them to head and body well and countered well in combinations. Used them offensivly effectivly also. Feints: Good Nothing outstanding, but he knew how to use them. Footwork: Good Much like James Toney here. Staticlly his footwork was brilliantly, but dynamicly he tended to struggle (although not as badly as Toney). Always in good positions for punching and never off balance but tended to be slow on his feet and could be out-manuevered. Body Punches: Excellent One of the very best at this. Got the proper leverage and really dug them into the right places. Used them well in combo's. Could finish a fight with one, or used them to break down an opponent gradually.
