Some of the best fighters of recent years; how do you rate them all-time P-4-P (in a straight up 1-10 format):

    - Pernell Whitaker
    - Julio Cesar Chavez
    - Ricardo Lopez
    - Bernard Hopkins
    - Roy Jones Jr
    - Floyd Mayweather
    - Felix Trinidad
    - Mike Tyson
    - Oscar De La Hoya
    - Lennox Lewis

I realise that some of these fighters are still active, but treat the scenario as of today. Here's my uneducated guess:

    1 - Roy Jones Jr
    2 - Pernell Whitaker
    3 - Floyd Mayweather
    4 - Julio Cesar Chavez
    5 - Bernard Hopkins
    6 - Ricardo Lopez
    7 - Lennox Lewis
    8 - Felix Trinidad
9 - Oscar De La Hoya
    10 - Mike Tyson

If you feel there are any glaring omissions please feel free to add on any recent fighters that I may have missed or deliberately left out (i wanted to limit it to a set number of ten): feel free to chuck in Morales, Barrera, Pac, Calzaghe, Holyfield etc. Just keep it as a ten is all I ask.

I know that Duran fought up to quite recently; I omitted him from my list due to how far away from his peak he was. Rate him if you think he falls into the recent category though.

Mine`s is judged on primes THEN career.....

    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Pernell Whitaker
    Floyd Mayweather jr
    Erik Morales
    Roy Jones jr
    Marco Antonio Barrera
    Mike Tyson
    Oscar Delahoya
    Joe Calzaghe
    Bernard Hopkins

Ps. Pacquiao is still in his prime & on another day Mosely, Marquez & Winky might squeeze in there, it is very difficult making these lists & Ive not seen enough of Ricardo Lopez but Im going to soon.

Also.... the top 2 could change around with no arguement from me.

    :thumbsup

I like Marquez myself, I thought he beat Pac by 7 rds to 5 in their last fight, one point because of the KD.
With Floyd retired, Id have JMM top 3 p4p as I also agreed with the MAB result.

He might be able to edge out Hopkins on my list on a different day.

Chavez & Whitaker are undisputedly the top 2 in my book.

    :thumbsup

    1. Whitaker
    2. Chavez
    3. Jones
    4. Hopkins
    5. Mayweather
    6. Holyfield
    7. Trinidad
    8. Lopez
    9. Mosley
    10. De La Hoya

I'm only really secure on the top 4. There can be some changes with the other 6, and Pacquiao, Lewis, Tyson, Barrera, Morales, all could be argued in.

Toney, Tszyu, Calzaghe, Wright, are all just a little off from those who can be argued for the top 10 in my mind.

I totally agree with your top4 and even with the constellation. But i want to mention that if the following bouts of Jones and Hopkins go like i think they will than Hopkins will be my number three - i think Calzaghe will dominate Jones and win a clear UD while Hopkins will make Pavlik look bad and lose an ugly and very close fight which he just loses due to his age just like the last one.

I agree with the outcomes of these two fights, but I still find it hard to put B-Hop above Jones. I have no problem with it, I'm a bigger fan of Hopkins than Jones, and at his best he was a complete fighter, which Jones was not. But Prime for prime, I give the slight edge to Jones, and career accomplishments I also give the slight edge to Jones. A one-sided win over Pavlik (I don't think it will be one-sided) could be enough for Hopkins to pass Jones though.
